How do I stop the AUTO folder running
I'm trying to get a new Atari system up and running and suspect something
in the AUTO folder is damaged so the system is crashing. Is there a way to
stop an ATari ST running the AUTO folder? I seem to recall you could hold
down the Alt key or something, but nothing seems to work at the moment.
I'm using TOS 2.06 by the way.

* To bypass accessories and AUTO programs on boot, press Ctrl.
* To bypass the HDD on boot, press Alt.
Hope it helps.

Re: How do I stop the AUTO folder running
Press and hold <Control> key down as soon as the computer is turned on.
This will boot the machine without any ACC, AUTO programs, the "NEWDESK.INF", the "DESKICON.RSC" file or anything else. It will however read the hard disk driver, making the hard disk available.
You will most likely not see all your hard drive partitions, so go to the "Options" menu and select "Install Devices" to mount them.
Pressing <Alternate> instead will do the same except it will load from floppy. So you cannot access your HDD if you do not have the driver software on the floppy.

Thanks for the replies - worked perfectly.

Re: How do I stop the AUTO folder running
Hello, I am holding down Control but can't seem to stop the desk accessory from loading from the Hard Disk that's crashing my system. I have a Mega ST4. I don't have a bootable floppy with the Hard Disk driver on it. Can someone give me an idea? Thanks.

Re: How do I stop the AUTO folder running
Is it the stock tos ? I think ctrl key to bypass acc/auto only works after tos 1.06.
Mega default tos is 1.04.
Sooooo..... In my opinion, install xboot and disable acc/auto

Re: How do I stop the AUTO folder running
This should be a HDDriver key press control. I don't think it is a TOS thing. I may be wrong here.

you can download ICD tools from here https://sites.google.com/site/stessential/hdd-toolsSlax wrote: Fri Feb 19, 2021 7:56 am I don't have a bootable floppy with the Hard Disk driver on it. Can someone give me an idea? Thanks.
I think the driver is called icdboot.prg

Re: How do I stop the AUTO folder running
This worked! I booted up then flipped on the HDD, then ran the ICD tools to access it. Then simply deleted the offending ACC.wongck wrote: Sun Feb 21, 2021 1:07 amyou can download ICD tools from here https://sites.google.com/site/stessential/hdd-toolsSlax wrote: Fri Feb 19, 2021 7:56 am I don't have a bootable floppy with the Hard Disk driver on it.
