a preview of "Starraider"
Yes, it´s true. This really great game project I begun in the late 90th has never been finished. It was in a very early state around 20 megs big, while the source code was a small 50 K only, enough space left for a lot of more ideas.

Looks interesting. It is amazingly well presented. Love the animations.
However it just looks like a new interface to the "docked" section of space trading game Elite by Ian Bell & David Braben.
The main spaceship is a copy of the Cylon Raider spacecraft from the 1970/80 version of Battlestar Galactica (which isnt a bad thing).
Is there any more of the main gameplay, other than the space station section?
How was it supposed to differ to Elite?

I noticed that and also the interface looks a little like the LCARS terminals in Star Trek but yeah it looks really slick. I would also love to know if there is more to it or if more is planned?alexh wrote:The main spaceship is a copy of the Cylon Raider spacecraft from the 1970/80 version of Battlestar Galactica (which isnt a bad thing).

I'd love to play another wellrepresented Elite clone.
Actually I wodnered wether to do one for ST as well (but without 3D spaceflight then)

The main idea of Starraider was a space adventure / a space trading game, but without a 3D part in space as we know from Elite. There were also plans for a star map of course. The only part outside the space station I had begun was the flight through the texture tunnel wich you see in the video too.
Yes, the spaceship is the remake of a Cylon Raider. Maybe I find it somewhere on my Falcon harddisk; I will have a look for it. The Raider has been created in .3d2 format by using Cyber Sculpt.
All 3D renderings were made with NeoN Grafix, the animations and morphings were made with Apex Media. My Falcon seems to get old, it doesn´t like the Apex Media anymore.
Development on Starraider ended so many years ago; I have really no plans to continue. I think about buying 30 floppy disks wich I would need to transfer all data and then to make it available for download. :-)
@ simonsunnyboy:
The very first try to make my own space adventure was for the STE/MegaSTE. I have found the floppy disks where I had stored it on, but it seems that I have stored something different on it in the meantime. :-(

If it is all prerendered and without using too much animations something like this for ST could be possible.
I remember writing roundabout 4 or 5 Elite clones, one even with pseudo 3D, but I have lost all sources so I would have to start over.

Here is the full preview of Starraider
I bought some floppy disks to transfer Starraider to my Mac. The zip archive contains 13,1 megs of data. In my first archive there were missing serveral files.

I found this one on the tube... Seems very nice indeed.
Seems that a lot of potential stuff never was finished.
I saw this one because I was looking for the ASCII art convertor, and this was next on
the list

Thanks for watching!

Re: a preview of "Starraider"
Nice video. Looks like a great concept, Omikronman.
The in between flights can always be a 2D combat similar "asteriods" but dashing to the spaceport instead of the rocks coming at you.
So anytime you want to pick it up (IIRC there is a asteriod source code in Laser C example).

So can we expect any progress there or is it reall really really dead...Omikronman wrote:Thanks for watching!
Would be a shame

I know how it feels, I have tons of idea's for my game( new gfx for different world
to play in, features and thing I can't do msyelf like music) but the one thing I
don't have is time. Since that is one of the most critical items in the project
I wonder if I will ever finish. Still as long as I hope to do so it's alive...

Even if my Falcon is still alive I have no plans to continue my work on the game after so many years of pause.

You could release your source free to the world though??Omikronman wrote:Even if my Falcon is still alive I have no plans to continue my work on the game after so many years of pause.

Oh, I did ! Some of the source graphics are missing (I thought I had copied them all, but it seems I was wrong). Here you get what I have copied from the game (the to buy menu and the tunnel are missing): http://atari.no-ip.biz/Atari/cosmic.zip. It runs very well in Hatari.

Re: a preview of "Starraider"
Hello,
Great, I'll test this soon.
> It runs very well in Hatari.
I'm really pleased to read this. After 2 years of work for me, several for Thothy, it means that hatari's reached a good level of emulation now.
There's still work to do, but for those who have no more falcon, Hatari is now an alternative.
Best regards,
Laurent
