All these drying agent and fan just for the CT63?

My falc been with me at this country since 95 or 96, no issues with it (touch wood... you never know  ).

Atari are pretty hardy computers, my STFM survived my amatuer soldering of tos2.06 on it.
Just that today's hardware are not so hardy.

Not for a CPU to fit the CT63 it isnt!! Macs never used the 68060 chip they went straight from 68040 to PPC.

It looks like Freescale (former Motorola) raised the price bar and distributor sells MC68060 (50MHz) for over $478 for 206-PGA version. Am I missing something here?
Freescale do not manufacture 060 chips anymore. All they have are the stock they made many years ago. They price them so that only military will use them, all others will use or modify their application to use coldfire.

You can get reclaimed Revision 6 (Mask E41J) MC68060RC50 chips capable of 100MHz online for about €45-€65. Just google or eBay to find them

The 060 is still listed as active and is even available as RoHS version.

I am surprised to see that so many CT6X have been sold. When I decided to upgrade my Falcon in 1996, the Afterburner040 was the best choice, but it was very hard to get one, because all of them were sold out and the developer thought not to be able to sell enough units again to make a new production run. However, they decided to make another 50 Afterburner040 boards, so I got this one, taken of a Falcon that had been shown on a Atari show before.

68060 is a ceramic packaged CPU and so was very likely RoHS by default.

From what I can tell Freescale no longer have a FAB which makes chips at the geometry of the 060 so it appears they don't manufacture them any more. I am pretty sure they are surviving on back stock. I've not seen any photos of chips with recent date codes.

I'll phone and ask if you like? Perk of my job means we'll have a contact in engineering rather than sales.

with ARM, yeah I know.
Problem is that DEC makes StrongARM as well when they had their fab at Hudson.
It was "given" to Intel as some sort of settlement deal with cross-license/royalty.
So all ARM knowledge goes with it to Intel.

So the Atom had some stuff from ARM I guess, I may be wrong.

Hope that ARM will not go the way of their parent, Acorn.

hi update

update for this thread - I emailed rodolphe and got a reply that all existing stock is gone/ accounted for. So if there are any more people out there looking for a CT63 then I guess we need another 20 emails to rodolphe?

here's hoping :)

I think there is no more CT63 production, but there will be a newer design coming out.
It's stated in this forum somewhere
