Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
I usually replace the Steem.exe file (and the updated add on files) for every new update. So far it has worked fine. This time i can't even run this update of Steem in Windows 7 Ultimate Edition because it crashes immediately. I had to switch back to 3.6.0 again.
Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
I had the same problem when I attempted to reset Steem 3.6.1. I also went back to 3.6 for STX use.

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6

Too bad! What did I do?
Steem 3.6.1 runs in my Win7, and I don't see breaking rendering changes between 3.6.0 & 3.6.1.
Did you have problems with the 3.6.1 beta?
Did you try the debug build as well?
With this info, I only see 2 things that may help:
- delete auto.sts in Steem directory
- update capslib.dll (Steem expects v5 now)
By the way you may keep all your versions with a different name.

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
Same thing, Steem 3.6.1 crashes instantly when trying to boot any game or app. I deleted both auto.sts, auto_crash_backup.sts and auto_reset_backup.sts but it did not help.
I tried the boiler version of 3.6.1 too and it's the same problem.

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
Since it works with v3.6.0, we may check if the crash happens because of some new feature.
For example could you try this one?

Edit:
the correct link was:

Since this is a bad bug for some users, I see no other solution than to release v3.6.2 at once.
Thx for the report, but it would have been less embarrassing for me if this appeared while the beta was available. Maybe I'll change the system again.

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
Steem SSE 3.6.2 WIN32 build (release, debug) has been released on 16/04/2014.
This is a quick bugfix release after reports of Steem crashing on some systems.
Sorry

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
Steem 3.6.2 worked for me as well. I didn't report the problem because I run Steem in unsupported environments (VMWare virtual machine of Windows 7 and Wine) since I'm a Mac OS X user.

I tried it on my 520 STF and the bad line at the bottom is present (it's not flickering, but some pixels are changing).lotek_style wrote:Not yet
So, this is a bug in the demo, not an emulation problem.

EDIT : the bad line is at the top, not the bottom, as in your description

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
I know... you wrote it's possible with some additional software but I would prefer to have PNG directly as screenshot format... without installing additional software... I use Steem A LOT... nearly for ALL my screenshots and it would be very nice to have one step less here

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
PNG and many others are already in Steem, you just need to add FreeImage.dll in Steem directory.
This was done by Steem authors, not me, but almost nobody knows it.
I evoked this in the "Coming soon! 3.5" thread I think.
SCP, that's less easily done, but look I already thought about it:

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
I can't save in NEO format and whatever format i choose with freeimage.dll so does it only save it as BMP?
This is how it looks in steem.ini.. set to PNG but saves as BMP?
ScreenShotFol=C:\games\atarist\screenshots
ScreenShotFormat=13
ScreenShotExt=png
ScreenShotFormatOpts=0
ScreenShotMinSize=0
Using steem sse3.6.2.

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
You're right dude!
This proves I never actually tested it.
It's because I save PNG screenshots with the window frame (copy paste in IrfanView).
1) FreeImage deprecated a function and removed it from the DLL (!!!), Steem didn't find it and the library wasn't active.
2) The DLL falsely claims it can convert to a PNG with 32bit colour.
So really it's more a problem in FreeImage. This said, PNG libraries are not so easy to find so I'm still grateful it's available.
3) NEO will work also when FreeImage is active, this was my bug.
I fixed it for next version (v3.6.3, coming soon!), it will work.
Thx for the report.
Edit: here's a nice screenshot, PNG

Re: Coming soon! Steem SSE 3.6
Get ready, release scheduled tomorrow (if my enemies don't kill me tonight) of v3.6.3, both Windows (regular, boiler) and Linux (less features).
After some reports and some bugs I saw myself.
No new features, which are for future v3.7.

Steem SSE 3.6.3
Steem SSE 3.6.3 WIN32 (release, debug) and UNIX has been released on 04/05/2014.
Improvements of v3.6.3
------------------------
-Gemdos hard disk: interception mode depends on option 'Hacks'
Checked: mode 6 if possible (ReDMCSB)
Unchecked: always mode 4
This is because we're still not sure that ReDMCSB would compile
on a real ST.
-STE DMA sound (option Microwire): YM+DMA only if mixer mode 1
-Adapt Steem to current version of FreeImage (breaking changes)
-No drive led when drive not selected
-Defaults to WU1 for vertical overscan
Bugfixes of v3.6.3
--------------------
-Bugfix record sound
-Bugfix Shifter write single byte in palette register, revert to
Steem's original way
-Bugfix resume snapshot without CapsImg.dll
-Bugfix save NEO snapshot when FreeImage active
-Bugfix command $D4 in native WD1772 emulation (broken v3.6.2)

I already read that Freeimage thingy in the doc before... but as it has been pointed out that it does not work so it would rock to his this "without installing" any additional dll's and stuff

Please try it, it should work now as said just above your post:lotek_style wrote:I already read that Freeimage thingy in the doc before... but as it has been pointed out that it does not work so it would rock to his this "without installing" any additional dll's and stuff
You don't need to "install", just copy the dll in Steem's directory. Or is it too much for you (copying one file in a directory), and you ask me to code native PNG support instead???Adapt Steem to current version of FreeImage (breaking changes)

I use Freeimage dll with Steem since more than 10 years and it works great
(no matter which version of Windows you have, it works with XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 8.1 update).

I think the older versions of FreeImage still worked but not recent ones, which has been just fixed in v3.6.3.Brume wrote:I use Freeimage dll with Steem since more than 10 years and it works great

Now I hope the older versions still work. If not signal it and plz upload the version as I couldn't get my hands on it.
