Thanks to Bonus, over at FB, the following post came to my attention.
I think this is a very interesting concept and I'm looking forward to see Atari ST graphics man to try this out.

Re: Optimized 16 color palette
It's used by Anima in the Ghousl'n'Ghosts port here: http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=31479

Re: Optimized 16 color palette
yes, it's a very good palette. I'm also using this one for pixel art.
You can find the actual use of it with those screenshots, thank you troed for pointing it out: http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 75#p318643

Re: Optimized 16 color palette
Recently I have been using Pixaki on my iPad it has this palette built in. This is an example I did the other day.

Using about nine colours of the sixteen.
The only question I have with this palette is how close can the ST reproduce the colours. I don't currently have a cable to connect mine to the TV to see what it looks like.
Pixaki is cool in that it lets you put a reference layer behind everything and you can trace the outline, which is how I did this one.

Re: Optimized 16 color palette
As is known ST can display 512 colors, STE 4096 . In this case - optimized palette for 16 colors only - 512 colors is enough, Human eye can not distinguish so small color differences, only when they are side by side. And of course, analog displays can not too.Spectone wrote: ,,,

In case of your cat picture that's the exact problem -there are larger areas with same color - like under neck left. There is no enough colors to show it better - because 16 color limitation, and also because only 512 colors. In this case it would not look better on some STE.
Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.
Re: Optimized 16 color palette
@Spectone I have a solution soon (see my programmers-palettes thread) - for plain ST it might be easier to supply an exe that loads the palette (probably happen soon) as well as .pal file for those with a control panel
@AtariZoll not true on eye thing, 16 million is the physical limit of they eye, and yes most people dont even try to see that many colors, but although I am now getting blind I can still see palette differences at a pixel level and have done since VGA came out. I think those 9 colors should be able to be fairly close from 512 palette, we will see soon.
