Those Amiga Newtek pictures

This may seem like an odd request, but does anyone have those Amiga Newtek pictures? Not the demo reels (I have them), but more specificly I posted the ones I'd really like in their bad spectrum 512 conversions. I remember others such as a baby picture, a picture of a hot air baloon, a british solider etc. They were mostly the digi pictures and all I can get are the demo_reels. I'm curious about converting them over. I've seen some of the conversions to spectrum 512 (posted here), but I'm confident they can be done better- not to mention how well photochrome would convert them AND I might start doing STE conversions as well.

What is a little bit funny... See how the fashion has changed over the years - these ladies for sure looked quite attractive 20 years ago... Now, it's a little bit strange - permanent waves and to much make-up. Or am I not oriented in the latest trends in fashion?

Those were from the Demo_reels. =) I have them. And an Amiga guy helped me get that DynaHiRes 640x400 face in BMP format rather than JPG. But thanks for the links.

But yes, I also think the 80s makeup/hair trends made women look uglier. That said, nowadays (at least in Dublin), it's becoming popular for women to wear so much makeup and especially fake tan that people call them Oompa-Loompas or Orangefaces (or Ohmygods, because that's the phrase most often overheard as they chat loudly to friends/their mobiles on buses). Oh well... let's hope they eventually realise that it makes them look bad.

It's amazing that both on this site and the Amiga org site, nobody seems to have these somewhat famous Amiga pictures. They were advertised in almost every Amiga magazine from 86-89. =(. Well perhaps someday I'll get a hold of them.

As for the fashion comments- hahaaha. It's interesting- but oddly I wasn't looking at the girls fashions as I was the color in them. But since it has been brought up, I didn't realize it. Maybe I've been watching to many 80's movies and just don't pay attention to it?

Well with my LONG LONG LONG search for these DAM NewTek digiview pictures I can't seem to find, I found this cool PC program (ADFVIEW). You can use your PC to view Amiga ADF files, then all you have to do is right click and copy to your PC or disk. =) Then use something like XNVIEW to check out the Amiga HAM pictures. I've been browsing ADF files now all over the net in search for these pictures! Perhaps this will help others who want to help me with this search!?!?

I checked out both New Tek Demo Reels
I checked out Digipaint 1 and 2
I checked out Digiview 4

I think they came out in late 1986 but no later than the end of 1987.

Help me find these pictures PLEASE!

Ok some Amiga person helped me find the pictures but now I have to convert the old Digiview pictures to the normal Amiga HAM6 format. Sigh. So close yet so far.

I would imagine as digiview pictures are a proprietory format, you would have to have the digiview software to load them in. Then save them out as something else.

I've found the didgiview v4.0 software disk. The file extension is .DMS I know nothing about Amigas but perhaps it's a disk image?

DMS is on Amiga what MSA is on Atari - oldschool standard for archiving whole floppy disks on a sector basis. UAE takes them the same way as ADF files.

Ok everyone this is my collection of those Amiga NewTek pictures. They range from 320x200 HAM6 to 640x400 16 color per scan line Dynamic HighRes. Conversions will be coming- but in case any of you wanted to take a stab at it. Here they are in PNG format.

That's why the Amiga pictures of the same always looked better than Spectrum 512 because the source was the Amiga. So when converting to Spectrum 512 format, all the "problems" that came with HAM6 also were converted to Spectrum 512. But still, those were excellent examples of what the original Amiga could do for static pictures. Again, I'm not saying Spectrum 512 was better than HAM6. However, I must say more times than not Im likeing the results of Spectrum 512 over HAM6 when converting 24-bit pictures. Of course better formats became available for both machines later. I honestly liked the results of converting 256 color VGA over Spectrum 512 better than HAM6. Sadly Im not aware of many digitized pictures that were orginally made with the likes of computer eyes for the ST. Most "aww" pictures that were shown in the late 80's seemed to have been from conversions. Even Antic's Spectrum 512 slide show included MAC II and Amiga conversions.

Well enjoy the Amiga NewTeK pictures. They were trully some of the most impressive graphics for the Amiga at the time. If only Digiview was available for the ST back then.

Are you sure those artefacts (e.g. the dodgy red blips and other 'wrong' colours appearing in unexpected places) that we saw in the HAM images were due to HAM rather than due to bugs in the conversion/dithering software?

If different rendering engines were used to resample and dither the images for each format, then it's not really a fair comparison of the quality of the actual formats.
Unless HAM just displays everything weird like that due to the very basis of how it works - I have no idea

That said, I also prefer the Spec 512 jobs over the HAMs, and of course Photochrome pissed all over everything.

These NewTek pictures are original Amiga pictures. PNG pictures should be identical.

For conversions, software can always be tweaked to produce differn't and better results. I don't see how you can avoid those "fake" colors in HAM6 pictures simply because of how it works. HAM6 and Spectrum 512 have limitations and work completly differn't making comparisons of 24-bit pictures interesting for me. I plan on playing around with these great NEWTEK pictures to see just what kind of conversions I can get with Spectrum 512 and Photochrome on a standard ST.

I'll get to it when I can. The quick results didn't look so great. Ham6 is a pain to convert to Spectrum 512 because of extra fake colors HAM6 needs to get its colors. But I'm playing around with it. =)
