OK, really dumb question time.
I want to run STOS off a hard-disk image. However STOS seems to need to be in the "Auto" folder, as it doesn't seem to like being fired up once you get to the ST desktop.
Is there a way of quitting STOS when it's started, so that you can exit to the desktop?
Thanks,
M.

Re: Quitting STOS
Hehe, no. I'm using V2.6 from my own floppies (plus 2.7 compiler) - but many thanks. I shall have a look sometime!

Re: Quitting STOS
Not sure why you cannot run STOS from a HD outside of an Auto folder as I have done on both my ST and Falcon, as far as I can recall I created a folder and just copied the files from the disk into them.
Although now I think about it I do recall editing a file (BASIC.BAS?) to point something to the correct HD folder location so have a look at that and if you still can't get it to work I have week off soon so I may ave a little time to blow the dust off my Falcon and see if I can figure out how I got it to work.

STOS is normally run from the GEM desktop. I can't remember if I ever had it in a auto folder, was like 20 years ago. Though in steem I run from desktop.

Re: Quitting STOS
Sorry, now I read my post with fresh eyes I can see I was not being very clear.
The original post appeared to be stating that it was not possible to run STOS from a HD unless it was in placed the Auto folder, I was trying to indicate that it is possible as I have run both STOS and STOS 3D from a HD on both an ST and Falcon, I think I also did it on a HD partition under STEEM but gave up with STEEM years ago as it was not responding to some keyboard characters at the time.
For STOS as I recall I just created a STOS folder on my HD and copied all my STOS disks in to that and edited BASIC.BAS to either point something to the correct folder or REM it out. From the ST desktop I had to navigate to the folder and double click either BASIC.PRG or BASIC .TOS (can't remember which) while on the Falcon I had it set up as a Desktop Icon. I can't remember if I put STOS 3D in the same folder as STOS or a folder of its own.
