STOT status now? This forum being monitored?

Post by skeezix »

I know, AF is just back up,m but I'm curious :)

STOT main page is missing lots of info .. it woudl appear season 7 is ongoing now, but nowhere does it describe what is in each season and so on; looks like a dozen members, all in Europe?

What are the rules, and is it open for joining .. only at the begin of a season? when is season 8, and what games have been already done so we might know what will nto be in season 8?

Too many Q's, I know :)

I'm just curious .. life is eternally busy (I code for too many projects, never actualyl take time to play anything..), but if this is slow paced, it might be an awesome way to force myself; it looks like (from randomly loking at a few posts here) that a season is a few months long (?), and every 2-3 weeks a new game kick off, with points awarded based on goals the organizer has set. That sounds managable .. were it a new game every week or something, it would be too much for me, so I must admit I am intrigued!

So, any news? :)

Join in at any time with whatever the current game is. I pop in from time to time when I'm not messing around on my Xbox, so I'm currently killing zombies in Red Dead Redemption which means I'm not currently partaking :)

Yes, about stot, I am not sure if Thorsten has kept the data from the rounds that have been affected by the AF downtime or not. Either way current game is Kolmik by Paradize.

Here are more info at the stot blog: http://www.npoi.de/stot/

I do try to avoid Facebork, but my wife insists I keep a presence :)

I'm assuming generally arcade style games are used (ie: that have obvious scoring systems) and that scoring is either competitive (first place gets X points, second gets Y) or score-divided (game score / 1000 == points awarded for this round)? or is it achievement based (beating first boss gets X points) and thus requires some game research by the league organizer? Or do yo uget into games like DM or Breach or whatever, and make it achivement based, or games like Empire / Colonial Conquest and try to share a savestate around?

I'm way overcommitted to projects, but considering giving up some commitments and trying to learn how to relax a little :P

STOT is both score based (first gets x points 2nd y etc) and achievement based where various awards are given.

We haven't played a game such as DM yet so I can't really say, but achievements are game exclusive, for example level solving or find an item or stuff like that.

STOT awaits resurrection but otherwise is pretty dead. You are welcome to restart it anytime. It died because beside Thorn and myself noone else cared to submit scores anymore. That made the thing pointless as I only play for fun and Thorn only for competition.

STOT is effectively dead. Seems like the days that the ST was viewed as a gaming platform are gone :(

Of course they are two different things but:
a. There is very little discussion going on about gaming in this forum
b. If there were many people playing a portion of them would participate in STOT making it viable.

A sad indicator for less ST gaming activity is that few if at all people do the reviews for the Automation rerelease over at the D-Bug forum.
I can't play and review all of the games over there :(
