Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Hi
I've uploaded a disk image of the Minix OS 1.5 for the Atari ready to be used for Hatari.
http://subsole.org/minix_on_the_atari_st
Seems a bit unstable, but I think it comes from Minix iteself at it was never that stable on the 68000 due to lack of real MMU
I don't see any illegal instructions or the like from the shell where I started hatari

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Hi all,
I can confirm this, Minix is running wih Hatari 1.9 again.
By the way, someone interested in Minix 2.0.2 / 2.0.4 for Atari-ST?

Yes if you have a disk image I would be intersted
If you habe a github link to the source would be nice to ? Did you test it on real hardware ? Does TCP / IP work ?

Yes, it runs on real hardware, and yes, TCP/IP is working (via rs232).
Okay. Give me some time to prepare a disk image.

Atarian since 1989. Atari 1040STFM, 4MB 520STe with UltraSatan and Unitor N, A dodgy 1 MBSTe that bombs out after a few minutes, and a 14MB 48MHz Falcon 030 with NetUSBee and Soundpool 8 channel DAC. Plus my new MiST!
Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
A disk image is almost finished, it will be about 100MB.
How can I publish it?

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Fantastic stuff! I don't have any Atari hardware to work with anymore, but I am interested in the converted sources if they are available in .tar format, as I still have an Amiga 1200+68030 adapter, and I am working on porting 1.6.25 to this platform. A further step might be to port 2.0.2/4.
Thanks!

Thanks!

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Hi Tritonus
Just boot the stuff on Hatari works great ( fortunately I speak german so I could read some of the debug messages
BTW how did you port thje whole sutff, did you cross compile or did everything locally ?
I also noticed that Minix is quite picky about FS errors, after a hard reset of hatari, the file system was damaged and fsck failed, leaving me with an error ( cann handle V2 file systems and an unbootable system) Have you seen such a problem ?

Having these images ready to use are a great help to newcomers like me!
Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
I've pinged Volker directly as well, but if anyone has managed to extract the sources from the 2.0.4 image and has a tarball available, I'd be very interested in getting my hands on it.
Or, if you've worked out how to get the files out of Hatari, that'd do too. The 2.0.4 image won't boot for me, and the toswrite command in 2.0.2 just corrupts the filesystem...

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Success... Hatari's printer port emulation works with Minix 2.0.2 and I was able to extract the source trees that way.
If there's a good place to host these archives, please let me know. It'd be a shame to waste Volker's hard work.

Yes let's keep this online !mikesmith wrote:Success... Hatari's printer port emulation works with Minix 2.0.2 and I was able to extract the source trees that way.

I would suggest to open an account on github / bitbucket or gitlab and put the sources here.
I've put Minix 1.5 sources here https://github.com/EmmanuelKasper/minix-st-1.5

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Would Joska be interesting in hosting these alongside the original disk image download?
The tree is a bit challenging to work with; Volker did an amazing job to make it build with several different toolchains. I don't know if hans@beastielabs would be interested in cleaning it up for cross-compilation as he did with 1.6.25. I'm doing something similar to it, but also removing all of the machine-dependent code so that it's easier to port to new hardware.

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
hej mike, can you share Volkers' source tree on something like https://send.firefox.com/ ?
Minix 2 is BSD licensed, so sharing is not a problem
also how did you extract it via parallel port emulation in Hatari ? very curious !

Re: Hatari 1.9 and Minix: it just works
Hatari can log printer output to a file, and it closes and opens the file when you disable and re-enable printer logging. So create the logging file, enable logging, then under Minix, use tar to write to the printer device:
# cd /usr
# tar cf /dev/lp include src
Once that completes, bring up the Hatari preferences, turn off logging, and rename the logfile to <whatever>.tar. Rinse and repeat.
