No more steem download ?

I noticed that the steem website now point on the source code repository, which is great for coders, but for the end user there seems to be no more binary download

No.

Steven Seagal did post some binaries of his modded version in this forum. However I think he may have pulled them down after getting hen-pecked by people who took issue with him not publishing his forked source code.

but where can we download steem now ? it should be available on the official website
and it's not http://steem.atari.org

The version 3.3.0 of the Steven Seagal Edition! (=SSE) was uploaded on 28/2/2012 at http://ataristeven.host898.net/Steem.htm. The same day the corresponding source was uploaded to the Steem repository. I also make the original Steem 3.2 available on this site (you need it to use the SSE version anyway).

I was just wondering of any new user going to the official steem website and not seeing any download link :/
