Help getting started

Post by Insurgent »

Hello everyone.

Trying to play the proper ST version of treasure Island dizzy, I downloaded Steem, the TOS and the Dizzy file (among other games). I have Steem running, I can see files I put into the directory I listed as my HD, but I can't get any game started. When I click on the file, it just says it can either show, print or cancel the file. Print crashes it, and show just makes some weird code appear bedore returning to the desktop.

The file was downloaded as an .stx file. I have used the imageprogram and the Imagejoin to make it into a file that should play, but instead of being an .st file which is what it says it needs, it makes it a .stt file. And when I try to download files from other sites, it's still .stx.

Is it because I'm running on Vista? Any help?

Going on the file extension, the .stx file is a Pasti image of a floppy disk. You should use the Steem floppy disk window to insert it into A: and boot from it. You will likely need pasti.dll from http://pasti.fxatari.com/. According to http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10756. you put pasti.dll in the steem directory and then enable it in the floppy disk window.

Hi. Me again. Quick question:

What do I do with games that are password protected? Mainly, Another World and the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles arcade game?

PASTI files are designed to be complete *with* all protections - disk or manual-based.

If you want the unprotected games you'll need to download the hacked versions.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk
