GamebaseST is Go!

Post by Goldrunner »

I think GamebaseST has been in hibernation long enough and so I started working on it again yesterday. A couple of things sparked my change of mind over developing it, there are a couple of new interfaces on the horizon that will hopefully give GamebaseST a new lease of life with its aging front-end. There also seems to be some renewed interest in GamebaseST after reading through some of the posts in this forum.

As for the extras for v3.1, I am not keeping them for my own personal use as suggested in the forum. They will be available shortly or people can wait for the next release, either way GamebaseST has always been public domain and it will always be soi. I apologise for not releasing it sooner, I have no real excuse other than it didnt really enter my head over the last few months.

It taken me a long time to get my ethusism back for the Atari ST. People who know me well like Retrogamer will know why. Although I have been away from the Atari Forum (as well as Atari Legend) I have been working on another project for the ST called Guardians of the PaST. Which, is still very much alive although it seems to be taking forever to get off the ground.

I have a lot of work ahead of me with GamebaseST, Guardians, and some well ovedue input for Atari Legend. Luckily I have a bit more time on my hands now so I should be able to devote a lot of hours to all 3.

First thing is those mythical v3.1 extras! I will burn a DVD and get the posted to Retrogamer, if he doesn't get them within a week then everyone has permission to really have a go at me

Great news, Paul :D .
Let's think about a way to bring the 3.1-extras online.

Important note to Goldy:
I don't have any parts of 3.1 as the DVD you sent last time had errors, please send not only the 3.1 Extras but also the Games / Apps or indeed anything that has changed since 2.4.

Once I get the files I will upload them firstly to Usenet, seperating the "extras" and "games" etc into different collections with PARs etc etc..

Then I will upload the files to that server that was available last time, hosted by someone here allowing "free" download of the collections to "all" .
If "that" server is not available and anyone else has or knows of a similar server then I will do the same for that server. :)

I will not be going near any P2P networks :)

So, in theory if all goes well then 3.1 should soon be available to "all" :)

Can't say fairer than that really 8)

Welcome back Goldrunner.

I will grab the extras from Usenet as soon as they are up and put them up on edonkey. I will post the links here and on my www page.
As always: i will keep it shared until the next version comes out.

BTW: Gamebase 64 V5 was just released. Get it from alt.binaries.emulators.misc.
In one or two days you can find ed2k links on my page, too :-)
Once you get locked into a serious ROM collection,
the tendency is to push it as far as you can ...

Alternatively if Goldrunner can also get a copy in the post to me, I can sort out a few parcels to Europe for those who don't have newsgroup access?

No need to worry keili, at the very least I would think that many users will share it on their P2P..
Last time Megar made the v3.1 files (except the extras) available here, so if he is willing and there is room etc I will gladly upload the extras to him, that way it will spread pretty quick
You there Megar? :o (PM sent)
