Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Does anyone have an official Atari TOS Developer's Kit with a set of disks or knows a site that has copies of the included disks? I really could use a copy of 'Disk #2' as the one I have is definitely corrupted. Thus the copy I placed at https://www.dev-docs.org/docs/ is also bad.

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
There have been many different cuts of "Developer's Kits" over the years.
I see yours has Falon030 programming utilities on it, so I would imagine it's more modern than mine.
I got mine sometime in, oh, 1985? It had the perfectly dreadful AS68 (an assembler that will over-write your source code with the object code;
I kept an entire file just on screwups in AS68).
It also has documents from Digital Research about CP/M-68K ...
Anywho, can you narrow down what you're looking for?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Someone downloaded it from my site and reported some files were corrupt. Its some of the source code examples. It was a while back and I don't recall which files exactly. I was hoping someone had 'Disk 2' and could just zip the whole thing up and post it.
By the time I received the devkit, there were several assembler packages out, so I never really used any of the tools in the kit. I also prefer GFABASIC over 'C' and I probably couldn't get make to work anyway.

I downloaded your corrupt files and compared to what I have, and the file sizes are different on disk 2.
Hopefully it will work.let me know and I attach all the copies I have

Hopefully the guy that originally reported the problem finds this thread. He was actually trying to build the examples.

Thanks! (I too was looking for them)
Why four different downloads? They all look the same to me

Apparently some files on disk 2 (e.g. cards.c) are still corrupted

Maybe the floppy was mastered like that and all of them shipped the same way.rabindranath72 wrote:Apparently some files on disk 2 (e.g. cards.c) are still corrupted

I can't believe they would let out such a set without checking, and what's more, without replacing it? I think it's more likely that the copies we have all originate from one bad source. Here is the Atari ST set that I have.
I've MSA'd the 6 disk single sided set.
It could possibly be a very early revision of the Atari ST dev kit.

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Highly unlikely. From what I remember, the dev kits were big bucks. Around $5k if I recall for a few disks a large pile of paper...

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Although what you remember might be true initially, near the end Atari was selling the kit to anyone interested for $150. I bought my devkit directly from Atari and that included a subscription to the developer newsletter that kept arriving until they finally went bust.FujiMan wrote:Highly unlikely. Someone asked me on facebook a while back what files were corrupted and I didn't have an answer at the time. Related post:

Fingers crossed someone answers the call! I have been looking around myself to no avail

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Bumping an old thread. There's now a 2nd devkit at devdocs that appears to be ok.

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
That one was donated by Roger Burrows. I didn't personally check all the files, but Roger put some work into it after seeing the note about disk #2. He mentioned also adding a few missing files from an addendum disk he got from Atari. This set of disks should be close to the official distribution as of May 1991. Probably as good as it's going to get.

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Archive ATARI_DK2.ZIP replaces the older ATARI_DK.ZIP completely. I left the old one on the site because someone might like to compare them and see what files are different and what files Roger added.
Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
There were multiple generations of the DK. And ideally all versions should be present on the archive. I seem to remember two, or three, just for the ST. That's before the STE release.
The first one included the tools based around the DR C compiler, used by Atari itself to compile TOS 1.0 (and 1.02, I think). There was one update that included some optimized tools, and IIRC, TOS 1.04 on disk. Then there was a version with MWC compiler.
Btw, I don't think it was that expensive.

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
That's interesting, but I don't know how to tell the various generations apart. I don't even know what generation Atari sent me.
I would gladly relabel the archive descriptions if I knew.

Re: Wanted: TOS Developer's Kit -> Disk #2
Attached is the first DevKit I got. Five single sided disks dated 1985-86 (one or two files 1987, I think). It contains the Alcyon C compiler and DR tools that I understand were used to compile the first versions of TOS itself. Not really the best development system to say the least, but historically very valuable.
