Is it me or is there a lot of silly prices on eBay right now

Not that this will happen, but here's hoping that the sellers in Germany & Finland who want totally stupid money for their items are banned by eBay

They don't even ban those in your country (or that Crazy Swede who tries to sell Jaguar games for higher prices than telegames.co.uk, not to mention Nick Harlow). Apparently "doodleatic" freaked out for some reason (she had some items starting low and I bought from her before, but this is ridiculous):

Now that's odd - bought loads of stuff from them (they have two stores on eBay - doodleattic and theatticshop) and they've been fine with me and know that I'm buying the stuff for preservation purposes etc. Will send them an email to ask why their prices have sky-rocketed so much for the Buy It Now stuff.

I think eBay recently increased their (already relatively big) charges for buy-it-now items... perhaps that's not the only reason though.

i was going to comment on that Ork too...and do you know what the moral of the story is??? Ask for 30 pounds, get nothing....be fair, and let the bidders decide in a democratic fashion with a low starting bid (say....a penny...or at least 5 pounds) and possibly get 10 pounds, 20 pounds, even 40 pounds...heck maybe even 60 pounds when all the bidders get attached to the item they bid on already and try to outbid each other....but nobody will ever want to start with that 30 pound leap....and I speak from 10 years Ebay experience on this one, DUH...when will they ever learn...

I was quite surprised to get an email from ebay today informing me of new items in from one of the ebay vendors I have worked with in the past. I see he lists Breakout 2000 as "Very Rare"... but a quick search shows one available with instructions and box for $72 (item 270337947228), although it surprisingly doesn't have a single bid either

That will be hard to ever top. That is simply lame-ass. For one thing, Breakout 2000 is a really crappy game (joystick controlled breakout games = crap!), I sold mine a long time ago for $50 when I noticed that it sucked. And the other games are all $10 a pop.

Last week (lost the ebay nummer unfortunaly) an Atari Falcon swapped hands for about 380 euro ?!?!? I mean WoW
Is it just me or is this a massive price for a Falcon. Okay it had 14Mb but nothing else special....

And to be honest I was following it because I wanted an Falcon with 14Mb but with these prices even
I would not bid. Lucky me I found another on every nearby for much better price and loads of midi acc's.
I my eyes for an honest price although still high in my oppinion for an 16 year old machine

Oh I dunno. It's a clean setup, and Australian Dollars are pretty cheap against the pound. That works out at about £115.

The exchange rate is $2.2 AUD to £1 GBP, or $1.9 AUD to €1 EUR.

STs are also pretty scarce down there too.

That ST was grey as a whistle.. or err, something that's very evenly grey And it came with a monitor and a bunch of disks (but no mouse...??).

I got my first STe for about the same in 2007, from the UK. Now it's sitting on a set of drawers since I got another one as a bonus with my Falcon and hooked that up instead. Oh well Maybe I should cover it so it doesn't go superyellow.

Might considering selling my second machine It a winner before it starts.

Let's be fair: it comes with an earth-shattering 1kb of RAM. You couldn't let something like that go for nothing!

I have been thinking about this since I posted it. And it is a rare machine. So perhaps it is worth it.

There was a bit of a Forth craze at school at the time the Ace came out. I remember we got carried away with the fact that 1k of Forth had the same functional power as 4k of BASIC. Those were the days when 16k of memory was a lot...

The Lovell Telescope is or was controlled by software written in Forth.

Thing is, they're brilliant for development, as most of today's calculators don't do number bases or are limited; HEX, DEC, OCT, BIN.

It's just that I bought a Casio one from Tesco in their sale, for £6 or something, which was all bells and whistles, and enables you to gain a Doctorate in maths. And the thing doesn't do number bases.

Other recent ones that I've looked at which will do number bases won't convert between bases, eg. 65d = 0x41 = 1000001b.

It's a bit of a step backwards really, given how heavily computers are now used.

I also have one of these which I bought in 1995 for £5 when the shops were clearing them out as gimmicks. They go for £20+ on eBay now, £60 if pristine. Just wish that I'd bought 10.
