Anyone knows what alias did he use?

the british st demo scene wasn't that big.. okay okay, bigger than the one in holland for sure
) but the amount of crackers was huge.
some of the british demo crews:
- Pixels twins (guys with sunglasses?
)
- Chaos (including Tat of later Avena)
- Electronic images (including Griff)
- POV (MSD)
- The Lost Boys (Dave and Tim Moss were in there IIRC.. don't know the others..)
- The Mega Four (This guy was a good rapper too i heard, but it's certainly not the guy in the interview
)
there should be more.. but i just can remember them atm. my personal guess is this guy might have been a cracker (one of many in the U.K.) and never got his real name revealed?

Indeed there are a lot of old skool crackers who's real names we do not know .. the only "mystery" British cracker that springs to mind is A-Ha .. one of the first people to do ST cracked games as well.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).
I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Well, compared to the greek Atari ST demo/crack scene everything is hugeearx wrote:the british st demo scene wasn't that big.. okay okay, bigger than the one in holland for sure) but the amount of crackers was huge.

The only person that I knew that was a "hacker" was a guy called "John Ace", and he just did hex editings of cracktros (those that printed a simple text on screen

Now.... Greek Atari demo coders? Hmmmm... sorry, can't remember of anyone!

If it's the two guys from poo that recognise him, he could well be ex-Automation perhaps?
The Pixel Twins really was (from memory) two guys I used to know in Wandsworth, London but one of them (Nod) moved up to Lanarkshire to be with his penpal (and subsequently married her I think). The other guy was an albino who was damn good with his art on his Amstrad and later on his ST.
But neither of them were coders of any note, think that was all the work of Douglas (insert surname here!) who went on to do PhotoChrome and other programs?

Yep .. he was in the Scottish section but the STOS demo they released was (I think) mostly by Nod (Nod = Noel Wallace http://freespace.virgin.net/noel.w/Nodpage1.htm) and Phil (can't remember his surname but he's got a STOS-based picture slideshow on the Floppyshop collection - DEM419C - done under his moniker of PCM) ..
I've no idea how much input Douglas Little had at the time. Maybe that was later on when they did other demos, but according to the Floppyshop CD, there weren't many productions. Two megademos and 1 raytrace demo is all I can find.
A "Douglas Little" appears on Exotica as one of the coders for Chase HQ 2 though .. maybe one and the same?

Re: Anyone know this bloke?
The 'other' original TPT guy was Philip Matthews - quite a character, did amazing stuff with POVRay (actually rendered level tiles for our Jaguar game in it!). Lost track of him when the games company we were working for went bust - which is a shame because he did some interesting stuff. He made the 'scorpion' logo for BSS & Apex a bit later (also in POV).
There were some other TPT guys (AndyY = 'Highlander') but the TPT coders pretty much got absorbed into BSS after that...

What is the status of Black Scorpian software? Could Apex now be included with the other 'pixel painters' for prosperity? http://dhs.nu/files.php?t=pixelpainter

Re: Anyone know this bloke?
@MiggyMog - BSS is long gone and I don't mind making my stuff available. There are a few things that other people worked on mostly themselves (like the 030 debugger, Videlity) and I'd like to get in touch with them before making their stuff available, if they haven't done so already. There were some other bits and pieces that people didn't finish such as Dextrous and the ST/E 'version/prequel' of Apex - I'm still trying to find some of that material and/or get it to work for screenies or demos.
The stuff I worked on myself (and can find) will be appearing on my site over the next few weeks for D/L.

Found a disk labelled TPT Utils the other day. Any use or do you already have it?

Thanks. Maybe it contains something I lost.Mug UK wrote:Found a disk labelled TPT Utils the other day. Any use or do you already have it?

The source I found is for v3.00 - not the last version :-/ But IIRC the main changes with V4 involved file formats, resizing and stuff, maybe some conversion issues - not much with the display code (yep, just checked the change history). I'll keep looking for V4 source but chances are it's toast.
The display code is the only part I need for a new version anyway and there isn't a bit that can't be redone.
