Well I prefer PDF for literature and magazines. I like CBR for comics and manga. But as you mention, PDF can always be converted to CBR if desired and vice versa.

Scanned computer magazines works the same way as reading comics, it's all about 100% scanned material. PDF is better for reading non scanned (real) PDF documents.

Besides that CBR has lots of advantages...

* Much faster then PDF
* Automatic Colour correction
* You can easily grab anything because it's all regular JPG pics
* Fullscreen all the time
* CBR even handles (scanned in) double pages with ease and automatically scroll sideways
* You can easily unpack the JPG pages from the renamed zip file whenever you want

And much much more

But as you say, if i want a CBR file out of the PDF file, it's easily done.

And now, you can do it too. ;)

PDF will be the forum for online, simply because all the images come to 35GB. Lower resolution with some compression will have to be it for online. Anyone who wants the images they will have to be supplied on some DVDs.

Will try and start PDF'ing some issues over the weekend. Will post in a new thread when they start coming online.

You're not going to believe this but just retrieved all my AW mags from the loft. As I had seen the removal of page 43 from issue 3 (Barbie Doll cover), I grabbed about 30 copies of page 43!!
I also have three mint editions of the magazine with page 43 intact.

Hisoft must of been livid as they had a full page advert on page 44 for Papyrus Gold! :D

Any idea when? I'm looking forward to rereading Atari World -- its been ages. Didn't the early issues come with a couple of separate mags as well? (Atari Pro?) I know from experience what it is like to scan and convert old documents to PDF (I did several old Dr Who annuals for DVD release just under ten years ago) so you and your GF have my admiration…

You might want to keep a eye on this thread http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=26188

Though the server has chucked out almost 500GB of data on the stuff I have up at the moment, when it starts to go quiet I will enable the others, they are all scanned and uploaded but the server is getting a fair bit of traffic... Considering the amount of downloads, only 1 person made a donation. Would have thought people would have been a little mote grateful than that :roll: I Will enable the others when server load dies down a bit anyway..

Shame to hear. Hope some more ppl can press the donate button. It's not like you are asking that much. smh :( . I know it takes a lot of time and effort to scan all those magazines and ppl have been waiting and waiting for someone to step up and scan them. And now finally someone did. At least a couple quid would be nice to donate.

Yeah, Dawn spent a lot of time scanning and editing, shes still tidying up a lot of pages at the moment aswell. Though theres the ST format mags she is willing to scan , but as it took 7 months to scan AC and AW, it will take over a year I suspect to scan all of STF. Shes willing to spend the time to do it, but not exactly fair on her to spend all that time and get absolutely nothing in return. I know times are hard for everyone, but shes not in work either (part of the reason she has time to scan the things). Shes helping me sort out the STOS site at the moment too. Though I am distracted with developing ST upgrades at the moment ;)

For Issue 3, the PDF gives a 404 error and the JPG numbers messes up at 43/44 and gives pages 45/46, so there is no place to insert the scan of those missing pages!

Hi exxos,

Did you get the AF email with the links? I don't want to publicly host them, well my other site is having issues with the ftp logins and I can't resolve that just yet.
Are the scans OK? I'll remove them once you've downloaded them and can distribute?

Cheers

This is correct as there was no page 43 and 44 in the magazine

When the magazine was printed and left the printers there was page 43 and 44. That page was later removed due to bestiality content.
I have three mint copies with page 43 and 44 still. I've scanned those two pages and given them to exxos, atarimania and spiney.

Just a little reminder that (for the uk at least) the same publishing laws that apply to printed magazines apply to online publishing. So think carefully before you host something that was removed for legal reasons

I was thinking I can see why it got banned :lol: I think it would have to have a separate download ideally, a under 18, and over 18 version for example. Though I doubt there is many people under the age of maybe 30 that are even bothered about Atari stuff anyway these days ?

I don't care to see it myself. Maybe you could have a seperate pdf for the "complete" issue and one for the "adjusted" issue?

I heard what is in the picture and it sounds pretty disgusting. I don't know what Vic was thinking omg! :roll:

Couldn't find any duplicates of STF4 though, sorry.
I am happy to say I finally acquired STF4. My dream of collecting a full ST Format set is realized! :cheers:
