Downfall, a new jaguar game by Reboot.

Well since some of the users here also have a jaguar here it is:

The Atari Jaguar developers Reboot of JagWare have announced the release of Downfall, a freely available game for the Atari Jaguar game console. The game was unveiled at the AC 2011 party in France this past weekend. Downfall is inspired by the games Spike Goes Down (Vectrex) and Man Goes Down (Atari 2600), both created by Alex Herbert.

The object of Downfall is to guide your character through a never-ending chasm on a series of platforms, carefully avoiding rising above or dropping below the viewable area of the screen. Reboot have released the game free for download in ROM, BJL, and CDI format. The source code to the game is also freely available to download from the Downfall website.

Ah, if you knew what some Jaguar 'fans' could be like, you'd know you have to cover yourself Wanting to give your code away to help people get into coding Jaguar - good thing. Having wankers use that code to make childish remixes of your game to stir poo or to start selling CDs or carts, not so good. It's like that with anything though.

The code isn't DWTFYL license, it's there to try to kick-start some more activity - a good thing

Looks a bit like doodle jump on the iPad/iPhone only this one scrolls
down and dodle jump goes up. Like it, but migt lack variation in time.

I think a similar game on the Falcon should be do-able, esp. when hardware scrolling
and blitter is being used.

well the base model is 4mb . It could probably be relatively easier if the 8-bit mode was used. Otoh I don't remember seeing parallax scrolling on the falcon, in either demos or games.

Parallax scrolling you can cheat very easy, I have don it in my oldest DBA demo. Make for example 8 screens and
then pre-shift the pictures. Make an gfx 8 bits width and shift that every screen 1 pixel, the next GFX is 16 pixels
ans you pre shift that 2 pixels, then next is 32 pixels width and pre shift that 4 etc etc.

Now play the 8 screens by using screen swapping and voila the parallax scrolling is done

Maybe I just wanted to point that something like is possible on humble ST with not much RAM.
What Falcon needs is maybe some game what is addictive and original, and not just hunting some high tech. specs.

Well if the Jag related bits come out then there is a definite probability that there will be an ST (e) version.
