looking for a musician

Post by SkylineDave »

Im mid-way through developing a game (on the PC) and I need someone to compose some MIDI music for me...

i know MIDI music is a bit old-school (thats why we're all here ;) ) but my game is quite old-school to match. it's a remake of Chaos (top-down board game with wizards and creatures). im looking for someone who can compose mediaeval/baroque-style music that will play in the background while the game is being played. ive got some examples of the kind of thing im looking for but theyre licenced or from a game.

im looking for a long tune that lasts about half an hour or longer, that changes styles (dramatic, sad, quiet, loud, etc.) but is intended just to play along in the background as the player plays the game. by MIDI, i mean im just looking for a .mid file that will play on all PCs. i have screenshots of the game which may help give a feel for what music may best suit.

naturally i intend to legally 'own' the music as it were. im not expecting this to be done for nothing, but the game is my own and im on a limited budget.

does this interest anyone?

Hey Skyline :)

Would like to have helped but I don't think I could manage an hours worth sorry.

UnseenMenace might be able to help you, he did some midi which won him a podium place in a national competition some time ago. :P

Well remembered my learned friend. It was in fact ST Formats Quartet music competition in which I came joint third I think. Someone who has the relevant issue of STF could tell you for certain. Anyway I'm not sure if Quartet tunes would be any use but I have a fair few tunes that I have composed myself :)

Hi Unseen. nah its general MIDI im looking for, as the game is a PC game, unless Quartet notation translates nicely into MIDI :o

Dave,

Send me screenshots or better still some vids of the game being played at points where different moods are required and I'll put some thought into it.

Cheers,
Dal.

thanks Dal. might as well make the screenshots public (theyre a bit small tho ;) )

im not bothered about when the music changes mood as all im looking for is one long looping tune as a background accompaniment. i have attached some tunes that i think really suit the game.

Dave.

no progress?

Whether useful to you or not, here's a midi file that I wrote which you're free to use in your game if you want to.

If useful to you, then 20-odd more and you'll have your half hour. :)

what that old thing? :ehum:

I've made 10 for you altogether. I did a load on Saturday. But I'll post just one or two at a time, so that you can properly review them.

How about a nice halloween one (A9). I hope to see pumpkin tiles in your game

... and my answer to Marz (A5).

I design my midi for synth btw - not wavetable
