It really does - loved the first one so much and was looking forward to more.

To add insult to injury, the Amiga got 2 and 3, IIRC. :(

Midimaze, of course. Now if someone could add network capability instead of midi cables, it would even make fun playing online :-)

StickHead wrote:I appreciate what you are saying, Eero, but it would be a huge amount of work to collate that kind of data from the hundred or so people that have voted so far, let alone the future votes. And also, by limiting your choices it forces you to think *very* carefully about the games you do end up picking. So yes, it is difficult, but yes, that's the way I like it. Great games on the ST spring forth from technical limitations, as do great game lists spring from limitations of choice. Let me know your 5 and I will add them. You have plenty of time to deliberate! :D
Ok, today's list of my "all time" favorite 5 games are:
* Bellum (freeware)
* Cinko (because it's such a good Renju implementation)
* Megaroids (freeware Asteroids clone working also in mono)
* STarball (good multi-table pinball, and just £5 shareware)
* Vroom (seems to be very popular)

EDIT: day changed, so I updated the list to today's favorite 5 (+ sorted it). :-)

Two I've never heard of! Thanks, Eero. I'll be checking those out today. And thanks for paring your list down to 5... I know it must have been difficult! :D

AFAIK Cinko came on September 1989 START magazine disk (Antic Publishing / Michael Gilbert).

Bellum seems to be here: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st ... _8697.html

It's very small, contains just the right / essential parts of the game play.

Thanks for the tips on Bellum and Cinko. Will have to try them out. I really wanted to put Vroom on my list too, but even though I do think it was definitely the best racer for Atari ST, it sadly came out in the dying breaths of The Atari ST commercial games scene, and I only ever played the ST Format demo when it came out. Played the full game years later, but by that time, there were far better racers on PC, console etc...

Sorry to everyone who put that in their list...

Speedball 2 - An absolute blast in either single or multiplayer.
Millenium 2.2 - Loved the hard scifi exploration and resource management and the sad music of Mahler's Symphony 5 Movement 4. Was bundled with my STe so one of my first games.
Legend - Woefully unknown 3D isometric RPG dungeon (and overland) game with a party of four adventurers. Fantastic game. Still have the thick hint book that I've been meaning to scan.
Stunt Car Racer - Brutally tough at times but again great single or multiplayer with null modem cable.
Starflight - Spent months exploring the galaxy, planets and its story.

Choosing the top four was easy - games from childhood that I've not necessarily played the most but maybe most continuously rather than quick shoot-em ups. The fifth was flipping a coin between another ten games and it's hard stop to naming Another World or Downfall (the two player snow game) as also rans...

1- Cadaver - Great adventure puzzle game by The Bitmap Brothers, amazing graphics as always from them... and also has a very good title music theme made by Richard Joseph wich sadly seems to be the only music in the game. The puzzles are very well made and does not feel impossible to solve... if played it today you would not need to google the solutions
I don't remember wich year i bought it but think it was 1991 and it was during the summer so this game always makes me think of the summer.

2 - Metal Mutant - The best game from Silmarils IMHO, i bought this game late in the Atari ST's life... maybe 1993? I remember holding the original release i found in an sale bin and thought the cover art was awesome but did not buy it... i did buy the budget release a while after and regretted i did not buy the original release
Metal Mutant seems to use the same game engine as Colorado and Targhan and looks awesome... i love the animations in the background it really ads to the atmosphere. I like how each screen is kind of a seperate puzzle to solve... well.. by "puzzle" i mean how to kill the enemies on the screens since using the correct way to do so is the "puzzle" :) If i remember correctly so did it load faster than the other Silmarils games i had played... but it could be because i played the budget release?

3 - Skate Wars - Another game i bought a bit late... could have been christmas 1992? It is a violent futuristic sports game... a bit like Speedball if a comparison has to be made. I was very good at playing the game... i remember getting the ball and letting the opponent (usually controlled by the CPU) chase me back and forth on the playfield/arena and it was no match for me to lure him into the deadly traps in the arena. Today i am not so good at playing the game
One of the best games ever from UBI soft.

4 - Torvak the Warrior - This is not a game i played when i was young... it was just a couple of years ago i played it for the first time and i thought it was so amazing... and felt a bit sad i missed the game when i was young. It's an early release from Core Design... but i don't really know who designed it... maybe Terry Lloyd? He worked lot's good games and did great graphics.
Torvak is highly playable since it is so well designed... no endless spawning enemies or ever feeling unfair in design, it is a very fine example of how a platform game should be made on the ST.

5 - Eliminator - It was part of the Power Pack bundle when my parents bought the ST (in 1989) so this was one of the first games i played on it. Released by Hewson and made by John M. Phillips... another of his games was also in the Power Pack... Nebulus... also very good but too difficult for me.
Eliminator is also a very good example of a "racing" game (ok it is a shoot'em up really) on the ST, John was an most excellent ST programmer... too bad he only did 2 games for it. Awesome title music that i can blame for how my interest in game music started :)

There is this one, too: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st ... 11053.html Did you know about that? It is quite similar to Eliminator, if a little less polished.
