New game: The Curse of Rabenstein

Post by AnachronyX »

From their web:

ABOUT THIS GAME
The Curse of Rabenstein is the new graphic-/textadventure from Stefan Vogt, the author of the acclaimed Hibernated interactive fiction series. It is the first release from Puddle Soft, a collective formed by members of Pond and with the mission of creating new games for the classic 8-bit and 16-bit home computers of the 80s. The Curse of Rabenstein is following the paths of the legendary adventures from Level 9, but it tries to meet modern gaming expectations, so that the most sophisticated genre back from the day transforms into a contemporary homage.

SYSTEMS
Rabenstein is available for C64, Plus/4, CPC, ZX Spectrum (+3, ESXDOS, Next), Amiga, Atari ST, DOS and modern PC.

I've finished the game in a couple of sittings. It's nice to have a new game for the ST, but it's very, very short. If all the right moves were made in a row, it would take only about 10 minutes to play through, although obviously on first play (and there really is no replayability here) it takes quite a bit of poking around to figure things out, so the total playtime is more like an hour.

It was a moderately entertaining hour, but the cost of owning the physical copy of this game is certainly mostly about the novelty of having a new boxed ST game in 2020. Unless you really want a box for your shelf, the "name your price" downloadable version is the one to go for.
