Couldn´t you simply just make a warning alert box "this is not an STE... try to run it anyway YES/NO" instead of the message and exit immediately? That would help a lot...

Okay, thanks :)
I just played a lot on my Falcon... The game runs nice and I like it very much! Thank you!

But I have found one bug: It will hang when you are game over :( That means the music plays in slow motion and the machine freezes... maybe you could fix that... would be great! Love that game!

Best regards,

All versions I tried on my MegaSTE crashed at some point. Any clue?

Can you reproduce that with e.g. Hatari or STeem by using STE emulation and 16Mhz? That would make it easier to debug.

The same here. We tried it at PLatariada on the MEGA STE, but it did not work, but forgot that at all.

Well maybe I should say its a modded MegaSTE with SD-Cardreader... maybe that causes a problem?

Does it really make sense to reconstruct that bug on an emulator? It's running fine on Steem here.

This is INCREDIBLE!

How incredible?

Well, I've never actually liked the Giana Sisters before, and I do now.

Awesome job. (Even if trying to save my high scores to a virtual hard drive in Hatari did cause my Mac to freeze).

Is there any external location where to download the game? Problem is you need to be registered on the forum to see the download link -- which is quite inconvenient (this just happened as I send the link to a friend).

Anyway: great improvement of the game!

I've just tried to run this on Hatari (Linux version) and all I've managed to get is the black bomb screen with several different configurations. I tried running the PRG file both as a floppy disk and on a virtual hard drive to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

Personally, I quite like the original ST version of Giana Sisters; obviously not as good as the C64 masterpiece, but still a game I play a lot.

The penny finally dropped. You have to drag the data file onto the PRG just like with PP's Image Run software.

Nice work. The GGS we always dreamed of 8) .

Zamuel_a, you have put a lot of work into this, especially with the bug fixing. You have my upmost respect for what you have done. The same goes for pacmania too.

Cannon Fodder is one of my favorite ST games, but compared to the Amiga and PC it could've been so much better and could be significantly enhanced for the STE. Elf was an amazing game too.

Well done amd thank you for all your hard work, time and effort.

I did not like that it needs 2MB RAM min, while after game start lot of RAM is unused. So, did necessary modifications (without sources), and it can run now on STE machines with 1MB RAM too.

Packing is used, so fits on 360K floppy too.
This was first step (not easy) in my project to do this game with audio track playback from hard disk, in way how did with Xenon 2 and Cannon Fodder.
Because Haga supports not 2MB games, making this work on 1MB was important.
I did not test much - should be OK, as used same level data as in my hard disk fix, what is tested complete. Please report problems, if encounter.
Highscore save works not - it will go on hard disk.
And I would like to see suggestions for audio tracks, which can suit this game. What saw so far was not much impressive, at least not for me :D
Edit: images removed, updated versions (MSTE compat.) couple posts below.

Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.

Updated 1MB vers. files - Mega STE support was missing.
Files:
GGSTE1M.ZIP
Floppy image:
GGSTE1F.ZIP
And here is preliminary version with audio track playback - only for mass storage, currently only ACSI attached adapters:
GGSTEA.ZIP
This uses only STE audio DMA for audio, mixing of music and sound effects is done with SW. Usage of custom tracks is possible, but need more work in preparation and conversion. Because must reduce res. to 7 bits, need better audio leveling. More about how to do, and needed SW soon. Still 1MB RAM enough.

Haga versions made - with highscore save on hard disk, selectable start level. 2 different mixing methods used.

Looking that cover pic of Go! release with text "The brothers are history !" I asking self - did such provoking made Nintendo suing them ? :D

I believe that's the case. There are other games that have cloned the Super Mario format in more subtle ways and not suffered any legal consequences (Kid Chameleon on the Sega Mega Drive springs to mind).

Actually hard drive version with extras like: return to desktop from game, highscore save to hard disk, possible snapshot saving from game any moment (statesave) - so may continue later at that point .
It needs some extra RAM , therefore 2MB RAM req. , while bare hard disk version req. 1MB - but still with audio track.
