Highway Encounter ST

Post by tom-cat »

Hi every1.

cycyc suggested I also post this news here since it is VERY relevant.

I have got hold of an Atari ST version of "Highway Encounter" originally done on ZX Spectrum by Costa Panayi. He did the graphics for the ST version, the coding was done by the late Mark Haigh-Hutchinson). Unfortunetly I cannot reveal who gave me the game and what is even more sad I cannot release the game since Mark denied distribution 10 years ago when he provided the game. We are currently trying to reach Costa Panayi or Luke Andrews (original authors) if they would give us a go ahead to make the game freely available on the internet. If anyone has any possible contact information then please tell us. Here are some screenshots from the game:

Wow, that's really a nice surprise!
Judging from the screen shots this looks like an ace title. :-)

Hope everythings goes well with making this publicly available.

PS: of course, I wouldn't say no to hard disk/Falcon/etc. patching this game. ;-)

The tears are welling in my eyes again, I need twenty big buckets to catch them in, twenty pretty girls to carry them down, twenty deep holes to bury them in.

Unreleased rarities are always welcome in the ST world. Have you tried asking on the World of Spectrum forums as someone might know Costa through his ZX Spectrum work?
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Yes, I have posted over on WOS forums and we are currently trying to get hold of one of the author's contact information. I have already tried emailing Costa, we will see what comes of it. Lets keep our fingers crossed... it is a GREAT game indeed.

Some more screenshots (note that even if it says Demo version, this is the FULL version of the game... all 30 screens are present... as you can see from the demo mode) :

And... We have PERMISSION from the man himself :

"
Hi Tomaz

Thanks for your kind words.
As long as the Atari ST version is made available free of charge as stated below, then you have my permission to release it.

Best regards
Costa
"

So, without prolonging this any further, you can download the game from the following address:

Best regards and have fun !

Fantastic! Absolutely big thanks for your hard work. This year is starting very nice :)

Do you have any other stuff (scans, articles or similar...) related to this title so we could add them to Atarimania?
Backup can be found from us too along with a gamemap ;)

If somebody manages to complete the game (Hi Xerus :ehum: ), could you please send the rest of the screenshots for us to make the map complete...

I'm sure Klaz will be along soon with a souped up version which will allow us non-Xerus' to finish the game (and it'll work on a multitude of machines too) :)

Anyone got any pics of Mark Haigh-Hutchinson and Costa Panayi? Might be a nice touch to add them to a front-end intro on Klaz's version?

Is anyone working on backwards-engineering this one to add music/make it HD installable?
