The Great Atari ST Game Survey - Best Title Screens

Post by StickHead »

Ok, the Top 50 was well received and enjoyable to compile, so I've decided to extend the survey. Next up, as I was inspired by a particularly tasty one while playing earlier this week (I won't mention it as I don't want to influence the voting) we're going to cover loading screens! Here's what I need:

Your favourite title screens! You can nominate up to five and the order does not matter. Again I will collate the votes into a table and present the results.

Cheers,
Stickhead o-[]:-)

For the uninitiated, the excellent Atari Legend database provides an excellent trip down memory lane and no game I've ever visited is without a shot of its loading screen.

Please, can you give a definition of a "best Loading Screens"?
You want the best "please wait", not the introduction of game?

You are right, loading screen is a misnomer... I mean Title screens! My Amstrad CPC heritage catches up with me... how embarassing!

EDIT: I have changed the title of the post to prevent further confusion. :)

I made a list and i found about 80 games with a good introduction on Atari ST !
So i need a time of reflection to make the right choice.

Another World
The intro is not only produced with skill technically and visually (a mixture of 3D and 2D, digitized sounds, rotoscoping, etc.), she has also a unique atmosphere. With the latter you are immediately plunged into the atmosphere of this game.

Push Over
Very original at this time and fun to watch (the funniest of all), it has a sight Tex Avery who differentiate oneself from the others. And the animation is quickly with good digit sounds so it's a very good intro.

Powermonger
The graphics are good but the music is the main asset of this intro giving a serious and oppressive atmosphere. We can say that the animation is minimalist in comparison with others but they are different in each sequence and they help well the staging!

Epic
This is one of the longest introductions on ST. A mixture of 2D and 3D graphics but some graphics seem sloppy. The music is excellent, it's a cover of "March the Bringer of War "composed by Holst. Thanks to we really feel attend a Space Opera.
Too bad this soundtrack is a little short, his replay routine is a medium quality and it slows all the animation on the screen. It would be preferable to see it on MegaST, Falcon or better with a powerfull TT :)

Tintin on the Moon
Unlike the others, the game is rather average because of its fairly repetitive gameplay but I think that the introduction honours the comics book. The graphics are very exacts and reminds good memories of this excellent opus that Herge created. The soundtrack gives rhythm what we see on the screen and the digitized sound effects are fun. The animation is simple but effective and the end rather original.
It's not the best intro but i like (sorry it's subjective).

i always loved

RAINBOW ISLANDS

although this is more of a loading screen, the title screen is a pretty plain text based affair

I have always liked the intro to Defender of the Crown, even though it is over 20 years old, I still think it looks amazing :)

Are we including animated title screens or just static?

If animated, then I'd include the small story that came
with Chaos Strikes Back (although I'm not sure it can
be included because wasn't it on the 2nd disk? I forget).

I'd also mention the Ultima series with their little "mini"
stories they told when left at the main screen. :)

Thanks.

Great Giana Sisters - best titsle screen :D
Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.
