Nice work on the car sprites! :D
You plan to keep the original Ferrari horse orientation error or not? ;)

Right, when I am behind a real Ferrari I do not see that horse flipping around.

Hi
all sorry for the silences, it have taken a longer with my back that i expected, i had a really hard time getting back into Atari mode, when my back starting to get better late October, I was playing to many PC games

i have made some minor changes to the code adding a hack that allow to get up/down animations of the car.
i made a short video showing it.

i will try to see if i can get some progress made on this game in the near future :D

Wow the Ferrari moves real nice now.... the flipping dinosaur is still happening

Compare the YT video on 1st post to the one above.... it is almost 3 times faster frame rate and with better smoother graphics !!
Fantastic work !!

wow... such details, I cannot remember about the horse flipping.
Yes, keep it, so that it is as near as possible to the arcade version.

Great work on this Peter - you've really worked some magic with the Blitter. The frame rate appears much faster than the original - have you done any benchmarking?

I've uploaded a short video on Twitter at https://twitter.com/RetroRacing/status/ ... 7542961152 if anybody wants to see this in motion.

Outrun arcade vs. ST original version colors

Post by Eero Tamminen »

While the new car shape is great, and color is faithful to the arcade version:
outrun-ste-side.png
I think the original Atari ST Outrun color to be closer to real Ferrari red:
outrun-orig-side.png
I also like more the "flat-shaded" coloring of the back of the car in the original:
outrun-orig-back.png
While the car shape, driver & women look better in the new version, the dithered car back IMHO makes it look like a bad paint job, with the paint partly peeling away:
outrun-ste-back.png
What the others think of the colors and dithering used in the arcade vs. ST original version graphics?

The new car looks great given the STs limited 16 colour palette.
Remember that the arcade machine has a 16-bit color palette: 15‑bit RGB color depth (32,768 colors), 1‑bit shadow.

This is how the original ST version should have looked!
