Re: Atari Legend is back! Updates thread...

Post by ST Graveyard »

Hello all,

We have a pretty big announcement to make today. Our December update has been delayed a bit, but it was hopefully worth the wait. We have been talking about this in the past, but as of today, a first part of the Atari Legend project has gone open source. From now on, any developer who is interested can download the full database (except the sensitive user related data) and all the screenshots, boxscans and other graphics used for their own project.

You can find the download link at the front page in the 'Open Database' tile. We are planning a full blown API this year, but this will take some more work. We will also be updating our database structure this year, to further enhance the project so it will be able to handle all the different versions of game releases ever made. That is for later ;-) A full technical analysis of the DB structure will be made available in the future. Should you be interested in using it and have questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

So this also means that all user contributions from now on will be shared with the rest of the world. All your efforts will never be lost!

Also in this months release, we have drastically updated our CSS files, so if there are layout glitches on your system (wether it is a pc, tablet or phone), let us know.

Cheers
We are Atari Legend.

Loved that game, one of the few I had completed. :) And exactly as you, it had started my interest in C.V. games in general so yes, Ween was my next finished one just after that (loved that game and even my girlfriend did!)

I've been here! Checking in every now and again, and occasionally posting.

Life has me pretty busy. I enjoy writing reviews though. I find it relaxing. I've had an idea kicking around in my mind for a site where I simply review menu disks. Take a group and review at least one game on every disk they've put out. But I don't have the time for it.

But posting the odd review here and there to AL is something I might do again.

Both my STs are in closets for lack of space -- one in the US, one in the UK. But I do have Steem SSE synced to a monitor that can do 50hz thanks to Steven Seagal's efforts. And I've got a MiST up and running in a corner of the home office. So I do get to play with Atari stuff, a little.

Great to hear you are still playing Atari. Reviews are always welcome. The more, the better ;) So if you ever feel like it, just use the 'writ your own review' feature on AL, it should be easy to use...

Looks fantastic. So glad you got rid of the font for the main text. I can read it so much easier now!

Really enjoyed the review of Fascination. I remember owning the big box version of that game, and having to hide it from my mum at the time!

edit: Holy poo, Alan Tomkins! This guy was my hero when I was younger, and I remember learning so much from this Article in ST User (I only had Hyperpaint, Hyperdraw and Neochrome at the time, because I couldn't afford Degas Elite) but the techniques in this and another one that I remember in ST Format taught me so much!!!. I would make artwork in Hyperdraw, import that into Hyperpaint, then work on them in Neochrome, then later Canvas (when it was Free on ST Format) Then Deluxepaint. Even got featured on the ART-WORK! pages myself when ST user was scraping the barrel for content  .

Yeah I realise it was a crazy process, but preferred working mono and used to love Hyperdraw, mainly because it was my first real introduction to mac like graphics. Hyperpaint... Well not so much.

Own: 520STFM (1MB), 1040STE (4MB), TT, Falcon 030, Atari Lynx (Both the first one with the crap paint and the v2), Jaguar and too many x680x0 Macs to list, oh and also an Amiga 1200 (Boo!)

Thanks for the great feedback. You know, you can always share your experience in the comments section of the interview. I am sure Alan would be delighted to read it ;-)

I think it would be very interesting to interview Chuck Peplinski and Tom Bajoras, both are on Facebook and are part of the team of the legendary company HYBRID ARTS, which was part of the foundation of Atari as a professional tool for music.
With a bit of luck we could even recover and preserve the CHAOS operating system (Custom Hybrid Arts Operating System), not to be confused with KAOS.

P.S. Of course there are more people who participated in Hybrid Arts, but I do not know their names.

I'm all for that, I want to preserve as much history and enjoy cool stories about the past, however, as I have no knowledge about CHAOS or HYBRID ARTS, this would be something I need your help with ...
