Is it possible to DISABLE the new listing of the recent topics? It is pretty annoying (atleast for me) I'd prefer to make that optional.

Hi ssb.

I can't with the mod i implemented. Ijor reckons there is another 'recent posts' mod that acts in a similar way to the 'unread posts'/'new posts'/'active topics' links. If anyone finds it before I do, please post the link to it here (remember it must be compatible with phpbb3).

I agree with SSB that they are kind of IN YOUR FACE.... I guess just another thing I got to get use to, since I use "View unread posts • View new posts" rather than looking at the red icons to find unread posts.

I really got to get use to it.....
Was looking for url to get to the wiki, and was looking for the URL in the 10 recent posts and was like WTF where is it?
The Wiki Discussion Forum has gone off the screen due to the 10 post and I had to scroll down to get the link to the wiki.
That got me stumped for 10 seconds before I realised what happened

I posted on the wrong thread, so here it is:

I seriously hope you won't remove that page: http://www.atari-forum.com/search.php?s ... ive_topics

It's the one I use every single time to see the new posts, even if I haven't read the threads yet.

"View new posts" shows the posts made since your last login.
If you log out and back in again, the list will be empty.

The Recent posts mod isn't affected by this behaviour.

I don't mean any menuish links, I mean the active listing of "recent posts" on top of all subforums.

It is recent and real time.
You see threads there that are both read and unread by you.
if you made a posting and reload the front page, you will see your own post that you just did.
It's not like the UNREAD url link that filters out your own postings.

SSB,
I am not sure if I get it what you are asking for. What you want is to have no messages listed when you log in? Kind of a void pace?

Cheers,
T.

I think he doesn't want to see "Recent Topics" section at all.
It is annoying for me too...

Exactly! I browse all relevant subforums anyway, esp as there are most of the time many more interesting threads than those listed as "Recent".

Why not put this "recent topics" page on another button next to "view new topics" etc... ?

That's exactly what I'm looking to do. I just need to be careful that I do it right otherwise it could be affected by phpbb updates in the future. In the meantime, I'll shove it at the bottom of the main page above the online users list.

OK - recent topics now wedged between the forum list and online users section. Family life and work commitments mean a more permanent solution might take me a while. Hopefully this will keep everyone happy in the interim?

Thanks Dal.
Yeap, happy that it is not in my face now
It's difficult to please everyone.
I find that at time when there are not so many new posting, it was actually faster to access the new posting with the recent post.
