Amiga Games That Weren't & Son Shu Shi

Post by CodyJarrett »

This is an Amiga news story but I reckoned that it may also be of interest to Atari users too.

I've launched Amiga Games That Weren't with the release of the Amiga version of Son Shu Shi - hitherto only available on the Atari ST. I couldn't let you ST folks have all the fun!

http://agtw.abime.net/index.htm

Now, what about an ST Games That Weren't?

Well this one maybe - Allo Allo had a release on the Amiga and the music is really rather funky. I did look around to see if there was an ST version but I came up blank. Anyone know of one?

Oids was another one not released on the Amiga, but there again the Amiga had bucket loads of games that never made it to the ST.

I think Cody asks about ST games. One that I can think of is Flashback. Rumours said that it was ready but never released. Technically, it was not an advanced game, no scrolling and stuff, but it never made it at the final release. I think there were a few other games mentioned in the forum as well.

OK, got a bit mixed up there but here are few Amiga games that never got an ST release:

All Team 17 games (Alien Breed, Superfrog, Worms, etc, etc)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (the graphic adventure that is)
Legend of Kyrandia, The
Dune & Dune II - The Battle For Arrakis
Settlers, The
Zool II
Battle Squadron (probably the best shooter ever)
Trolls
James Pond 3: Operation Starfish
Shadow of the Beast III
Moonstone - A Hard Days Knight (the one that fetches absurd prices on eBay)
It Came from the Desert (and the Antheads add-on)
Walker (this is one cool game)
Defender Of The Crown II (hardly surprising since it was for CDTV)
Pinball Dreams
Pinball Fantasies
Diggers
Zork Zero: The Revenge Of Megaboz

There are loads more but these are ones that spring to my mind!

That's a very good list, Goldrunner.

Cody, there are loads of ST games that weren't, especially compared to the AMI. Just open up an Amiga format starting from the year 1993 :-)

Anyway, maybe you can check the missing list on Atari Legend to have a bit of an idea of the games we think might be still out there for us!

Cheers & thanks for the update,
grave

and about Pinball Dreams (Falcon)
Zork Zero (demo version)
Alien Breed (?)

There is a game called 'Trolls' on the ST, but it isn't the one Goldrunner is referring to. I bet Goldrunner is thinking about that super colorful platformer with the pink haired hero.

I wish that one made it to the ST indeed!

Thalion RPG Ambermoon never made it to the ST even though the 3D Texture Mapped game engine was originally developed using one.

Hi Grave

I think your getting to know me quite well, yep it was the super cutsey platformer done by Flair. It was another one of those games your other half might have like playing, I know my girfriend (now wife) did and she even bought it. I remember searching for Trolls on Atari Legend and saying "YES" when it listed a game, but major heartbreak when it turned out to be a PD game :(

Hi Marcer

Alien Breed (never made it to the ST, though Alien Thing is similiar)
Pinball Dreams (never made it to the ST, I did know it was released on the Falcon)
Zork Zero (never knew there was a demo, 8O Will have to track that down)

Did the game FEUD ever come out on the ST?
I've never seen it in lists, but it did appear in the sewer docs. Maybe they got a bit carried away typing manuals in

As discussed many time on these forums: Nebulus 2

No doubt we were robbed when this gem never saw the light of day on the ST platform.

A mention also goes to Chinto's Quest - although I don't know if this was released on any platform. Perhaps the software house went bust. Who Knows?

A bit irrelevant, but I'd like to say it anyway:

The Kral brothers had another game out on the ST: Crypton egg (took me a while to remember the name and where I have heard the name Alexander Kral, but I remembered it eventually :)). Did that ever came out on the Ami?

Yes some very good (yet painfull) entries here. Mortal Kombat has got to be my favorite beat 'em up ever. Monkey Island 2 was of course a shame it never got released on the ST. I love Desert Strike.

Some great Sierra games never made it, like Larry 5 ... also very sad ...

And I also like to mention T2 : The Arcade Game ... I enjoyed this one a lot in the arcades ... Ami owners could have it for the personal computer ...

not to mention the panoply of fps: Doom, Quake, QuakeII, Heretic, HereticII, Shogo, Breathless, NemacIV, Fears, Testament, Trapped I&II, Hexen, Gloom, etc.

Capital Punishment is a great beat 'em up a la Mortal Kombat

Myst also came out on Amiga in '97, iirc

a great deal of those never made it for one reason - not enough horsepower. I mean quake only runs at a decent speed on a 060!

Hi Karlm

Even on a 68060 equipped Amiga Quake still runs slowly unless you use 2:2 pixels and a tiny view area which made the game look rubbish. To really run Quake on the Amiga you need a PowerPC based machine with a graphics card!

Doom, Herteic, and Hexen needed at least a 68030 running at 50Mhz to have smooth gameplay on a 320x200 screen. These games are well beyond the capabilities of the ST as they are with most Amiga's unless you spend a wad of cash!

Well I have to disagree there, Quake runs very nicely in 320x200 mode on a 68060 and AGA or a graphics card. Of course, 640x480 requires a PowerPC/graphics card to be playable. Doom you could even run on a lowly A500 if you could find a 68030 accelerator for it. I'm sure it would run on the Falcon. Quake would probably run okay on a CT060.
