Welcome back!!

Post by Dal »

Sorry for the delay. I have had a completely manic week with work and other commitments, this all came at the wrong time.

So in case you haven't seen the postings on Facebook or Atari Age, I spotted some activity I wasn't happy about and to protect the data, I prohibited any access while I looked at it.

As it was a security issue, I got the phpbb developers to help me check it all out. It turns out somebody managed to make direct changes to the database. So far as I can see, it was just some forum labels that got altered but I can't check every post etc...

I have strengthened the database password and brought it back online. Once I'm back from holiday, I need to apply some patches and do some additional work.

Right - I'm off!

Any problems, please log them in this thread and I'll look at them when I get back.

I thought it was more serious, glad it wasn't. Good to see the forum back up and running.

Well done Dal for spotting this and seeing to it in such speedy time even with commitments. Just thought I might make a few suggestions though. If they attacked the database directly have a look at the security settings on the hosting server including the login details for it. Also any security measures placed on the sql database itself. If this was covered already then sorry for stating the obvious. It just popped into my head after reading your post. At least it wasn't serious.

Oppps.. did you remember to also set the password for the wiki ??
Also username is wide open in the error page.
This is a bad cause hackers can easily use SQL injection on it. (at least it does not show why query failed :P )
