I cannot still believe this. I am very sad. Thanks for everything Alison.

Life is so unfair sometimes. I read this and I was shocked to be honest. Sad, really sad. My condolences to friends and family.

Re: techie_alison
The site itself has gone now but remains in Google for the time being. I checked my internet history here at work and now have the main pages including images, though the JeST project page and some of the others would have to have new images added.drjeep wrote:It's worth noting that the domain expiry is set to the 6th of May so I can't see it remaining up for much longer.alexh wrote:Goodbye.
Is it worth archiving any of her site? Did she open-source any of her work? Can it live on after her passing?
I don't mind re-creating an archive, though if anyone else has pictures, especially for projects, those would come in handy.

Re: techie_alison
All I have is a pdf of the site as it was 13-08-2008. I never got around to archiving the newer site. There is also of course a lot of great material on her Flickr site, although that may be unavailable now. I just followed a Google search result to the LinkedIn business site and....well.....I knew she was good but wow http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/alison-challis/1b/a07/995.

I found her in LinkedIn sometime back.Shredder11 wrote: There is also of course a lot of great material on her Flickr site, although that may be unavailable now.[/url].
Her flicker page url is http://www.flickr.com/photos/old_computers/
Anyone knows how to archive the Flicker, please do so. (not sure if there's any legal implications).

Re: techie_alison
PDF will be fine. I've uploaded what I have into the ftp bit over at AMN so you should be able to download the zip file and compare what I have with what you have. Much of the site has not changed much so combining the 2 shoudl hopefully make a more complete site.Shredder11 wrote:All I have is a pdf of the site as it was 13-08-2008. As for the flicker album, I had a look through earlier so have them once again in the cache. I'll save the pages and see what I'll neeed to grab after that. May trawl through at home later tonight if I get the time.

The pdf file is now on your server Malc. The newer site seems to be mostly present from the files you gave me.

Re: techie_alison
Cheers, I'll have a look through later and see if there is anything I can replace missing files with. I also found a lot of stuff from the previous site, even though it was no longer on the menu, the Atari subsection seemed to be pretty much intact, though sadly pictures were missing.Shredder11 wrote:The pdf file is now on your server Malc. Re: techie_alison
It's so sad!
Condolences to Family and friends.
Even if the Internet is regarded as a cold and impersonal place, everyone at AF and at AA know how this is not the case at all here and with such people like her. I think I can safely say that we missed a friend.
Maybe it is not much, but I'd like that this thread was somehow 'sent' to her family.

Re: techie_alison
I was thinking about that youtube video she did last year of her on keyboards/organ. Sadly although I found the link to it on here, it has been removed maybe by Aly perhaps.

Re: techie_alison
Further to that do you all think it would it be inappropriate or mawkish to suggest that the thread be "stickied" ? Perhaps a mod could start another thread with the first post being a pic of Ali' with a few words and then merge this thread on to it?Paolo wrote: Maybe it is not much, but I'd like that this thread was somehow 'sent' to her family.

Re: techie_alison
Yes I feel there should be some kind of tribute to her life and work, whether it be in the form of a website page(s) or as a sticky topic on here. I know that sometimes certain tribute pages can seem a little over the top and turn into creepy shrines etc, but in the case of Alison a simple site or page marking her contribution and maybe sense of humour (which was great and cheered me up on many a day) feels very appropriate. I'm unsure as to whether sending something to her parents is a good or bad idea, and also when the right time to do this would be. I've no idea how I would feel if someone did this for me, but for the time being I would personally just respect her parents right to some time and space to grieve properly.
Re: techie_alison
rip

If you guys expirience hardware problems.
1. Always remove chips if possible before soldering.
2. Resolder your hardware, check cables too.
3. If problem continue THEN must be faulty software.
I got 2 Atari ST
Main is stfm, with blitter, with 4 meg of ram, with 16mhz cpu + s-video and audio input to videobox, vdi out
P.S.
My english may not be correct

This was quite some unexpected sad news to get. I did not know Alison, but I've read several posts from her. She was an interesting person. I will surely miss her posts here on the forum.
May she rest in peace.

Rest in peace, techie_alison. I never knew her personally and never even spoke with her here iirc, but I've had a lot of help from her answers and responses to various threads here.
And she wrote the y2k-improved software for Forget-Me-Clock II... which I am very thankful for. She will be sent a thought from now on every time I start my 520STM.

Re: techie_alison
Awful news, really sad.
She was one of the biggest contributors to the ST hardware scene in recent years and one of very few Lady Atarians. At least those of you with a PeST or JeST, (or one of her custom cables!) will have something to remind you of the contribution she made.
She will be fondly remembered for her work and good sense of humour.

Re: techie_alison
I only just found out, seems her friend found my number from a while back and rang me to tell me.. I am totally shocked, her friend was in tears on the phone apparently.. I had popped out and missed the call.. I worked with alison on many project, for the most part was PeST. I know we talked endless hours in the past but unfortunatly drifted apart in recent years so I have been out of touch with her for some time
I will regret not getting back in touch with her for all this time, though I drifted out of atari hardware some time ago due to work and other pressing matters so me and aly just never got talking again in recent years. I know she has been on here for the best part though I just have not had time to come here of late.
I will really miss her, the news was just shocking, she was one of the most kind and caring people and used to send me electronics items to mess with or she would just buy me stuff! A rare kind heart and will be greatly missed.
