Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
nobody says???
i will start to draw this up in proteus as i have most of the vme side done and i also have libs done for isa sockets
something to do today
what about adding a second port
like vme and another header for other use and adapter {ste etc i see people mention}
perhaps ram etc

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
Why not integrate a network chip on that card? Maybe the same as on netusbee. Someone only has to modify existing driver for that (base adress, simlier access on it as on romport).

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
your right
but there are a few issues
the vme to isa occupies the whole address bus
so and anyway negotiation would be needed
i sent email about this to frank and this is what he sayed ... not me
but i understand once you take up all addresses then you run out of rooms in your 3d hotel
i had the idea perhaps instead of negotiation of cards on isa or other extended ports
perhaps its better to pull a pcb out the back and add say up to 8 vme ports expander
why this is not around is just the usual mixed signals
so perhaps this can be done
with a bit of interest
you would need
a service controller
and a 32 bit mux bus controller
a 32 mhz ds pic code is there and done and easy
or you can even use the same dsp from the ultrasatan
one vme to one isa is not so good
frank pointed out you can have two isa one network card and one graphics using a panther /2 adapter...
perhaps a mix of ideas
4 vme ports but 5 and one masking port this will allow for a controller setup in hard soft globals
some people have mentioned interfacing the likes of pci graphics cards to the TT
this is possible but you need to address mux the existing vme port first
ie load an extender to vme but not on the existing chipset
or reusing the existing functions set as best as and workarounds {make do or mend {sew}}
with more than 1 vme port come added wait states but with a full set up i think a 4 port + control port mask set can be achieved
i rest my case on this

Dear Mr Simbo 2,
I love to buy a Nova card from you when you decide to make one. Probably a lot of people will buy one because it seems that everone is looking for VME cards these days and nothing is available.
(Frank Lucas, thanks for the tip).

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
I am also deeply interested in a VME graphics card for the TT (esp. as I still have no monitor for Tenox ECL adapter after trying four
).

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
I would been interested in a VME card as well!

Hi Frank.lukas could you explain how the LA17-LA23 (latchable Address lines) go attached to the Address bus? I understand there being also pulled down. Are also LA20-LA23 on the Address bus? or are they seperate lines? Also what kind of step down regulator do you use for the -12VDC? thanks greatlyfrank.lukas wrote:Changes …

Ah! got it!, thanks buddy, one other question what did you use to get the -12VDC? a stepp down regulator? if so what kind? thanks again!frank.lukas wrote:... you mean the Lines at the ISA Bus ?

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
I do not know what you mean?
-12V is already on the VME Bus connector.

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
hi
can you tell me about this design and is the a maker in progress
i dont want to tread on anybodies toes
ie ..i dont own the design and would need permission
and do we have the code ??? {found it}
if so i need a chip programmed for me too test the design out
ow its a gal 20V6 i can do this myself
once i build it up on proteus vsm
so whats the sketch???
well reading over i see lotheric?? is dealing with it
if not ill draw it up today

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
This will require an ATI Mach 64 ISA, right? very difficult to find one
Building a VME gfx card based on fpga cpu is lot more complicated, I suppose

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
Hello Simbo, nice work ...
I can´t see a problem so far !
The Adapter works with ISA ET4000 Cards (not all Cards will work, the DAC is important !) and with the ATI ISA MACH32 and MACH64 DRAM or VRAM Cards.
I have all the Drivers but my Archiv is 60MB, different Cards needs different Driver Software to work and MSTE/TT version is different too ...

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
the spare plugs i have can be reused i have 50 spare straight ones
not sure i even need a right angled one ..
would you like the card setup say as vme sizes so it slots and youll need a right angle
in and a ribbon at the Back to a pcb with the isa on
or all external ??? and 3X 32 way ribbons ??? etc {as needed} not sure the exact count ill check
but i can reuse the straight ones and glue them up with epoxy to form a nice connector...
to avoid overflow ill stick all new posts and comments in this post...
ok schematic as per detail all done

Re: Nova VME Bus Adapter Building Files ...
Oh how nice! thanks simbo, looks great, as for those Bi-Directional Address lines, frank.lucas stated they goe as A17=LA17, A18=LA18, A19-=LA19....A23=LA23 and so on so forth. I can't wait till you lay this design out, looking Good, i wish i could of laid it out but i don't have the design software for it. Goodluck simbo! alot of people will be very pleased...simbo2 wrote:OK here is the drawing as a pdf ive made up in proteus vsm
ive been at it for four hours time for a break some lunch and a pint
frank if you have a bit of time can you have a look over and see any problems ??
i just used 1 bus for just about everything so its a lot more tidy
if anyone sees an error please let me know
once its checked out by a few as a good schematic
ill start work laying it out
i recon a double sided board is plenty here
lets see once i start to lay it out
