Wait at least 10 secs for phweather to get the forecast information after the weather appears.
Forecast information is a lot more data, and with Atari slow networking (sorry) I need to break up the web services call.

Sorry for the false alert.
I have been too fast! Waiting a little to pull all the info and it works.
The warning message saying that forecast was not available for these towns just confused me.

Thanks again for this new version.

Cheers,

Hi,

today I install on my HD new version of this application. Please look at why there is differences in the indications in both cases written Cracow, PL at the top of an earlier version, below the newest version 2.00. The temperature nearer the truth at this time are indications in the earlier version (7 C). In earlier version (Kraków, malopolskie) there are in polish language name of City and Province

What do you think about it ?

Regards
Kroll

The old version is running for you?
That's something new. For me the pretty ladies tells me there's an error.
How did you manage that?
Kroll wrote:What do you think about it ?
The old version is using MSN weather web services.
The new version is using OpenWeatherMap web services.
So there will be differences readings as the provider is different.
I wonder if MSN weather is more accurate than OpenWeatherMap.

The name of the city is returned also by the web services.
If it returns in Polish then PH weather will display that.
So it looks like MSN is a bigger network (wild guess) than OpenWeatherMap as it seems to support local languages.

The previous version works for me too. Both the current weather and the forecast are displayed correctly.

I tried out v1.22 and it does not work for me, in fact some cities crashes it,

Few weeks back it was like "service cannot be found" or something like that.
And a city not found error in ph weather.

At least today, I can get some data... and crashes phweather.
I debugged it and the XML is somewhat changed. For example the provider is wdt now instead of previously imap.

I treid using Orlando, FL.
previous xml from MSN web service(from my save test data)

Code: Select all

<weatherdata>
<weather weatherlocationcode="wc:USFL0521" weatherlocationname="Windermere, FL" zipcode="34786" weatherfullname="Windermere, Florida" searchlocation="Disney University, Orange, FL, United States" searchdistance="5.28888141596562" searchscore="0.95" url="http://local.msn.com/weather.aspx?eid=388825&q=Windermere-FL&zip=34786" imagerelativeurl="http://blst.msn.com/as/wea3/i/en-us/" degreetype="F" provider="iMap" isregion="False" region="" alert="" searchresult="Windermere, FL (closest location for Disney University, Orange, FL, United States)" lat="28.4280567169189" lon="-81.5783309936523" entityid="388825">
<current temperature="73" skycode="31" skytext="Clear"/>
</weather>
</weatherdata>
xml now from MSN web service (fresh from internet)

Code: Select all

<weatherdata xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><weather weatherlocationcode="wc:USFL0372" weatherlocationname="Orlando, FL" weatherfullname="Orlando, FL" searchlocation="" searchdistance="" searchscore="" url="http://a.msn.com/54/en-US/ct28.538,-81.377?ctsrc=win7" imagerelativeurl="http://blob.weather.microsoft.com/static/weather4/en-us/" degreetype="C" provider="wdt" isregion="True" region="FL" alert="" searchresult="" lat="28.538" long="-81.377" entityid="24611"><current temperature="20" skycode="26" skytext="Cloudy" /></weather></weatherdata>
I am lost as to why the older version worked for some of you, unless the provider is changed only for some region so it depends on where the request is routed (I also assume Akamai may be involved in speeding up the response since I know MS uses Akamai).

In any case, it looks like I should make phweather also able to get from MSN as well as OpenWeatherMap.... :mrgreen:

Over the weekend while working on phweather, I noticed that there were umpteen times when OpenWeatherMaps return "cannot connect" and "temporary suspended" error. So the service is relatively poor as compared to MSN.

Also the last observatory time seems more frequent for MSN, there was once the observatory time was half hour ago for MSN while that of OWM was more than 6 hours ago. This may explain the deviation in weather forecasting seen in earlier post.

New version 2.1 now supports both MSN and Open Weather Map service.
The weather service is selectable for each window, so you may want to try out both to see which one work best for you.

Get it from the usual place https://sites.google.com/site/probehous ... -downloads

Hi, wongck!
I noticed that the forecast isn't available with OpenWeather. Am I doing something wrong? Shall I wait more?

Another question: I noticed that some icons are the same for probably slightly different weather. Is there a correspondence list? Maybe everyone of us could find (and share) some more icons...

Ah... i see, I may have land at Ljubljana and then take a taxi to Austria as flights to Austria is too expensive for my company. :roll:
If this is so it will be my 1st time seeing Slovenia.

Back to PH Gmap, it looks like the zoom value cannot get a good overview of the 4 photos when Slovenia is displayed. :-(

I think a transparent window background would be very hard if not impossible. This is because the desktop background is another process and phclock doesn't really have correct access to the image to blend them like that. Consider also if you was to drag a window under the phclock window in real time. I don't think a transparent PNG is really doable.

However, a transparent effect could be used on the clock hands for some fancy effects since phclock obviously has full access to its own window background.

I didnt check the docs but is it possilbe to open those pictures with the viewer when you click on thir thumbnails?

Well ... if you will be in Slovenia its maybe good idea to take a look of it. We have quite some interesting places to visit ;)

When you click on the thumbnails, it will sent the JPG file to your system configured JPG viewer.
You should already have one defined by the Set Applications.

IDK when I will go, if I ever go, as cost is an issue with the company. May be just do telco meetings instead of workshops.
