Re: Trionoids - Columns Clone for the Falcon - RELEASED!
Looks good and works ok here.
I get sound effects with FPATCH2 installed when using TOS4.02. If you are using STE DMA for them, this patch is required for pre-4.04 TOSes to activate STE DMA sound support properly.
The game even starts from FreeMinT with XaAES here and it is playable, this is great!
I am only missing support for a Jagpad. Maybe this can be added later?
Overall thank you for this release! It is great to see fresh game coding for the Atari platform and the Falcon in particular! Well done

Your game has really progressed over time.
It's an excellent clone of Columns, bravo.
It's party time for the Falcon at the moment!

Looking forward to playing this one.

Re: Trionoids - Columns Clone for the Falcon - RELEASED!
Ah ok, that sounds like a good candidate then. It's a shame I can't play the MP2 and DMA sounds at the same time, but I do need to add better sound effects at a better sample rate (they were an evening's hacky work).simonsunnyboy wrote:Looks good and works ok here.

Good question! I was going to make a shooter before this so I might try that again, but I'm rather keen to play around with DML's 8-way scroller code tooLaurentS wrote:So, the next game is ???

Just tested it for a while. Plays great but maybe the music could loop? Otherwise an arcade perfect job! Many thanks for a new game

Excellent - started getting addictive quite quickly
Grr!
++points for getting a Falcon game out! It's a very small club! And extra points for it being addictive.

Re: Trionoids - Columns Clone for the Falcon - RELEASED!
Tested with Hatari.
I like the game (and animation on changing option), but I think more linear speed increase would make it nicer. Would it be possible to increase the speed more often, but by a smaller amount? Now the game starts IMHO a bit too easy, but after a while it quickly starts to have completely impossible speed.

Re: Trionoids - Columns Clone for the Falcon - RELEASED!
I think the only way to do this will result in some pretty choppy looking animation. It starts moving a pixel every four frames, that reduces by a pixel a time until it's doing a pixel a frame, and from there it can only go to 2 per frame, 3 per frame etc.Eero Tamminen wrote:I like the game (and animation on changing option), but I think more linear speed increase would make it nicer. I thought of used fixed point to do the position and just render a rounded value but thought it could look a little lumpy on screen, maybe I'll give it a go!
It is actually supposed to loop, and does a lot of the time but I think there's some scenario where if screws up on an interrupt or something and doesn't cause it to start again. Seems reliable on Hatari but not on HW. Will look into it!Marakatti wrote:Just tested it for a while. Plays great but maybe the music could loop? Otherwise an arcade perfect job! Please try!
At least for partly diagonal movements that works fine, I've used it in my own game:

It looks pretty impressive. Love the colours. Very Atari.

Re: Trionoids - Columns Clone for the Falcon - RELEASED!
Thanks guys — I need to get around to doing an update but I've been a bit too busy playing games and poking around with a Pentium machine I bought (boo, hiss etc.). Glad people are enjoying it though!
