New Falcon Game release - DOWNFALL!

RGC saw the release of our first game for the Atari Falcon! It's taken a little time to finalise the release for the site, but we're now proud to present Downfall for Falcon! It comes in two flavours - one for 4Mb Falcons and one for 14Mb machines, so visit the Downfall Falcon page ( http://reboot.atari.org/downfall-f030/d ... alcon.html ) for more info and download links! It's great to be involved in a Falcon game release after so long

If you're feeling arty you can have a go at making your own background animations, see the readme file for more info - there are tools available to help you out (windows).

There are also 2 more ports* of Downfall in progress, neither by us but both looking very promising - one for Atari8 and one for something else!

*Edit: of course not ports - remakes

Hi,

Thanks for this new and nice game.
I've tried it under hatari (of course

).

The game runs well (except for the sound, but I'm currently working on hatari to improve Falcon's accuracy).

A question : many fruits appear under a plateform and I don't know how to catch them.
Is there a way to eat them, or are they just here to make me loose the game

?

Please, continue to develop such nice games.

Yes, that's normal - it's the same in the Jaguar game. Some fruits can only be grabbed by taking a risky running jump (maybe even using shoes or jetpack), sometimes you have no way of grabbing them. Without scripting the game 100% (blergh - no fun!) it's too tricky to work out where to place them, after all it's just a simple little game, so they are random & you have to deal with it

maybe I should try to port some of my jaguar games on falcon, I just need to know how to handle joystick or keyboard input !

Rip my IKBD lib for C apart and use what you need. http://paradize.atari.org/ - joystick, jagpad and keyboard are working from C. The main handler is M68K if needed.

Hi sh3-rg.

I played DF on my Jag for about an hour last night and I never saw a fruit under a platform.

I watched a youtube video of the Falcon version and I saw a fruit under the platform just like LaurentS is saying and I've never seen that in the Jaguar version.

I'm going to play a lot more tonight and look out for it. (on the Jag)

Ok I just played a 10K+ game of Downfall on the Jag. The bonus items are always level to the top of the rafters. Some times they are not possible to get but they are always at the right height.

Here is a link to the proper time in the Falcon version showing a bonus item under a rafter. This never happens in the Jag version.

Well, if anyone cares, yesterday we released v1.1, with the following changes:

Fixed score/hiscore display in-game (probably not noticed by most people)
Added rotary japgad support
Fruit now appear on top of platforms
Joystick "freeze" bug hopefully squished
Machines with CT6x accelerators have a better chance of running it correctly. From what we heard from the testers, if you notice any graphical glitches, the only thing you can do is lower the CT6x's frequency. CT2 machines are untested, but it should work there too.

Thanxxxx for the update, I download it immediatly to test the fruits

Edited: I've tested the game. The fruits are now displayed correctly, on the upper side of the plateforms.
Great patch, thank you guys.

I've easily beaten my latest score (1720) lol I'll try again...

If anyone is feeling brave enough to convert a power pad/jaguar pad into a dual-use spinner & regular pad, take a look at ZeroSquare's post over on AtariAge : http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/19 ... ontroller/. Very simple to do and the parts cost pennies, much better value than the £50/60 eBay auctions that don't come up too often. I bought a little stack of new pads at the AC2012 coding party the other weekend so they're going to get the treatment

There could be more Falcon/STe stuff to support these in future. Not just new games, but patches of old ones maybe...?

Suppose that depends on the interest people show, but I'm up for revisiting some classic ST games with hacked spinner controls, there's a few that would really benefit from it.
