MOD compo for ATARI ST!!

Post by yerzmyey »

Name of the party: "Atari Headquarters"
Time of the party: 9-11 April 2010.
If the Krakow city is near to You - then just come. ;)

Well, we think that Atari ST should not be forgotten.

So there will be a standard 4-chnls MOD compo for Atari ST, on the party. (YM / AY chip, no STe!!).
Compo-machine: Atari 520 STfm 1Mb.

You can send any of Your old MODs but only not-published before ones.

Music can be played from two programs:

DigiComposer
http://yerzmyey.republika.pl/digicomposer.zip

ProTracker ST
http://files.dhs.nu/files_msx/protk21r.zip

Notes:
Seems like DigiComposer doesn't read "jump to pattern" command.
Seems like ProTracker ST doesn't read "tremolo" command.

The best would be a MOD about 200Kb or smaller.
You can make MODs up to about 380Kb, I suspect, but REMEMBER that ONLY ProTracker ST can play such big MODs (well, no "tremolo" command then, but there's still a possibility to make a twice faster MOD to achieve the tremolo/quaver effect).

*******************
You can make Your MOD on any machine but PLEASE TEST YOUR MOD on Atari ST (or emul) on both trackers before sending it to me and check out if everything's OK.
Pick up some tracker and INFORM ME about what editor You chosen.
*******************

Send Your MODs to: yerzmyey AT interia.pl
DEADLINE is: 7 April 2010.

I hope a classic MOD compilation will be made out of the resulting entries!

Good luck, I'm already curious on the results :D

Actually that's what I had in mind too. :)
Of course it would require a coder (haha), but I hope someone will offer a piece of help. ;)
Also I thought that the final product - kind of music-collection - would be not only for ST, but also for STe.
Well, I don't hide the Falcon compatibility would be perfect.

Well, we will see. ;) (Hear).
Anywayz. I still hope ST musicians from this forum will join the compo. ;)

Best wishes,
Y

Hi Spiny, sadly not this time - only the digital music compo.
The story behind is - the strongest Atari 8bit scene is in PL and they make many good gatherings, however ST(e)/030 scene here is weeeeaaaaaaaak (very sad). Therefore I "attached myself" to their party to make
1) show of original Falcon030 the best demos
2) organize MOD compo for original ST (1Mb)
to move the 16/32 bit a little, in the neibourhood. :)
As I'm only a musician by myself, I was able to organize some music compo but not any coding or gfx contests. At least this time. Now it's kinda too late to ad ny compos. But maybe next year, if they repeat the party. :)

I am trying to figure out DigiComposer and ProTracker in the Steem emulator, but I'm having some trouble.

1) In DigiComposer, when I go into Disk Ops and click "Load Sample", the program gets glitchy and crashes!

2) In ProTracker, when I try to load a sample, I can successfully navigate to my sample folder, but none of the samples in it show up! (I am using the ST-XX collection from this thread by the way.)

Anyone know what the problem is? Sorry I'm a noob at this.

Hi, Awol.

>I am trying to figure out DigiComposer and ProTracker in the Steem emulator, but I'm having some trouble.

---------------
This utility doesn't work with HDD (at least on the emulator).
It requires a work only with FDD, as I noticed.
I configured the prog especially for "outside" users, to make it simplier:
http://yerzmyey.republika.pl/digicomposer.zip and this link was originally in the post (to get more people interested in the machine). If You used the link from DHS portal, then sadly they changed my link into theirs, without any arrangements with me, and it made the matter more difficult to people.
You can use the emulator with HDD emulation and copy all required samples from "hdd" into empty *.ST disk and then my version of DigiComposer will see it (of course every version will, but the one from my site is already configured into disk a: ).

I will check out the ProTracker ST issue and let You know in a moment.

Yes, ProTracker ST works with HDD very well.

As for Your problem, there's a 'masking' turn-on. The program looks only for *.spl files
Image
as You can see nearby the cursor-arrow. You can delete the SPL and type there the second * instead. Then click somewhere else on the screen and the files will appeare.
If you want to go into the higher catalogue ("parent"), You have to click the "X" on the left.

However, if You ask me, I usually test and load samples on some contemporary PC trackers (like FT2) and save an empty 4-channels MOD (with samples only). Then I load it into ST - and have everything ready to work.

By the way, if there will be small amount of songs, we consider allowing 2 MODs from one author.

I also like the tune, dunno why ppl who were voting didn't like it too much, however it's a cover of a band TeslaBoy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlCNuMmGDP4
We hope to put an on-line album with pure ST digital songs. We will see. The song will be included of course.
Greetz! :)
