Re: audio sculpture manual
Got (I think) two originals of this .. if I can find both and they're complete, I can probably send you the spare original. I'll have a proper look when I get in.

Re: audio sculpture manual
Do you want the scanned manual or the original one (assuming I can find both of them)?

The scanned manual would be fine! If you have no use for the original I'll gladly take it off your hands!

Re: audio sculpture manual
Well, if I can't find two originals - fully boxed with all disks and manuals, then it'll have to be a scanned manual

Re: audio sculpture manual
Fingers crossed!!!
BTW do you know if the Audio sculpture by Synchron Assembly available from the DHS website is the same as yours.
I'm looking at this advert for Audiosculpture from JAN 1992 issue of ST Format. the version I downloaded from the DHS do not contain the midi features boasted in this advert. So now I am thinking there may actually be 2 st proga called Audiosculpture.

Re: audio sculpture manual
Pub quiz tonight .. but found one of the boxed copies with four disks inside it .. need to check I've not merged one set of disks with another etc.
Then, and assuming my mind isn't playing tricks on me, there should also be another one somewhere.
I'll start on the manual scan tomorrow night so that others can benefit too.

Just having to reinstall my Plustek OpticBook Pro drivers - Vista refused to see the scanner etc. No problems it going to be hosted elsewhere. Got TCB tracker somewhere too

Re: audio sculpture manual
Here's the first draft (2nd round of optimisations to make it small enough to fit into an attachment on here)
Not happy with the alignment of some of the pages so I'll be re-doing this at some point (either by using Picasa to straighten the pages or just rescanning the double-pages as double-pages and not singles).
Enjoy this first version and host it wherever you can

Re: audio sculpture manual
The little buttons on the side are not just for decoration Left/Right clicking with the mouse have different functions for each.
Audio Sculpture does indead have midi out With transposition and Midi channel mapping for each instrument.
It also has Midi in and you can control which tracker channels the midi in maps to .
For polophony you can use the note flow
Looking at this reminded me that you can use the numeric kepad as a drum/sfx matrix and map notes at different frequencies, genius. You also get finetune by clicking the 't' at the top!

@ MUG.UK
Thanks for this, this would be so helpful to people new to this tracker!!
@Miggymog
Thanks for that guide!!1 Really useful.
Thing is when I try the midi out option it sends all 4 tracks to midi. Can I not choose which instrument/channel to send to midi? I would like to play atari samples and external midi at the same time. Is that possible?

Fixed the pig's ear that I made - both this thread and the "trackers running in high-rez" thread are back in their proper places and with the proper posts.

I just had a play with it on steem with ports Ports>Midi Ports>Output device=wavetableThing is when I try the midi out option it sends all 4 tracks to midi. Can I not choose which instrument/channel to send to midi? I would like to play atari samples and external midi at the same time. Is that possible?
I had expected if the channel was set to '--' it would continue to play the tracker sample, unfortunately it doesn't work this way and only plays midi out when the Midi out dialogue box is open & tracker samples when it is closed.
You can however at least map each individual sample to a different midi instrument, this requires you to use the tracker 'INSTR' selector(not the midi box one) and then for each choose the mapping to Midi Channel,Instr(in midi box), & Transpose. (use channel 10 with different notes (Transpose) for drums & Percusion.
This sounds better for most standard instruments but obviously means any vocal/sfx tracker samples would need to be transferred by other means to your midi device or use an alternative instument instead.

Re: audio sculpture manual
Oh thanks for that Miggymog.
that's a real shame, that could have had so much potential.
So it basically becomes a 4 track midi sequencer?
That actually isn't a terrible thing as I have an Akai sampler.
The thing is the reason I wanted a tracker is because of the unique character of the retrigg command, and auiosculpture doesn't transmit certain commands like that to midi
THe only other proggy that has midi out is dhs for the falcon, which has dissapeared
I still have use for audiosculpture though....it loads modules done on amiga 1200 and Atari Falcon and plays them well, while octalyser runs out of memory for some reason (even in steem when I up the memory to 14mb!!)

Re: audio sculpture manual
Octalyser,
Try lowering the out put frequency? or one of the other options. at least on a real Ste this makes a difference!
I assume it's the midi controller messages pitch bend etc. you are after being transmitted/recieved?
Thanks,
Bye

Re: audio sculpture manual
Octalyser defaults to using as little memory as possible as it supports shelling out to the OS. You can however push this up to as much as is there in the settings which allows you to acuurately play your amiga mods, Audio sculpture does not support all the protracker featuers so Octalyser is better in this case. The quality of sample replay is also better in general depending on the UMP used.I still have use for audiosculpture though....it loads modules done on amiga 1200 and Atari Falcon and plays them well, while octalyser runs out of memory for some reason (even in steem when I up the memory to 14mb!!)

Re: audio sculpture manual
I'm also an Audio Sculpture fan and I'm hoping the original manual gets uploaded. I'm thinking there's a lot of stuff in Audio Sculpture that I haven't discovered or fully understood yet. It may not have the best replay, but it has one of the best replays. It can also tolerate very large modules and strange non-compliant modules that I can't get any other PC DOS/Win or ST tracker/player to recognize. My favourite feature however is the extremely versatile output options because I can then patch different channels into different tracks on my mixer/multitrack tape, using a plain ST. Great stuff! This is all common knowledge though so I'll shut up now

That's what I'm planning to do on me ste too: I will send the drums on the left channel and everything else on the right!bullis1 wrote:My favourite feature however is the extremely versatile output options because I can then patch different channels into different tracks on my mixer/multitrack tape, using a plain ST
re: octalyser memory management.
I am tinkering with it now and it still runs out of memroy trying to load modules made on an Amiga 500 with 1 meg of memory! This is with steem on 14 mb!! I don't think there's any point in trying it on my 12mb falcon (with only 4 meg st ram) if it doesn't address 14mb in steem. How do I up the memory? I can't find any options in octalyser for this, the onyl thing the manual mentions is to make the patterns smaller if you are starting a new track from scratch.
Audiosculpture loads them fine its just that some speed commands aren't interpreted correctly
Re: audio sculpture manual
If you are doing it multitrack from AS in Layers you can make use of channel mute, not as good as having midi/tracking at once thoughThat's what I'm planning to do on me ste too: I will send the drums on the left channel and everything else on the right!

Just, checked the memory thing, it's not in options after all it's in 'MEM', however the demo version doesn't let you edit it, I'm sure the full version 0.96 does though but couldn't get it working in steem to check.

Re: audio sculpture manual
The problem with muting is there is no midi sync to the multitrack so there are timing probs unless you're superhot with your spacebar triggerfinger!
I found the mem box, it shows the allocation of memory, system memory etc but no way to edit it at all.
0.96reg I managed to run in steem using the tos 2.06 rom from the steem website

Re: audio sculpture manual
Lol this is how I do things. I'll often do some parts of a song in a tracker and a bunch of other stuff with MIDI equipment and "live" effect pedal performance, so I have mastered the art of ninja-spacebar-bashing and eagle-eyed-tape-counter-watching.d0us wrote:The problem wiht muting is there is no midi sync to teh multitrack so there are timing probs unless your supepr hot with your spacebar triggerfinger!
