New converts and a new generation of Atariators

Post by bid »

I was just browsing Youtube, and I came across this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGLW_D3J ... re=related

Looks like there is a new generation of kids discovering Atari. Lol.

This kid could never have seen an Atari back in the day. He must be like 20, but he has discovered the machine. And is loving every minute of it. lol :D

I see you pointed him in the general direction of this little old forum :)

If he wants samples, he can have as many as he wants. Be nice to see what he can do with MaxYMiser and the extra 2x DMA channels :)

Haha, yeah I'm 18 :P
I've had it for a few years now, £15 with a monitor, floppy encryptor/decryptor, 2 joysticks, 2 mice, scart cable and a ton of floppys :)

I've been making music on the Gameboy for ages now, but I love the sound of the ST so I'm pushing myself to make some good sound on it.
Also love this forum, it's been an invaluable resource but I haven't registered until now - you Atari guys seem pretty l33t so I've stayed away until I've got a good grounding in the ST

As you can see, we're an approachable (if old!) bunch of people on here. I'm the one who suggested that you might want some samples for your tunes on your YouTube post, so welcome aboard.

Thanks MugUK :)

I sent an email to your Windows Live email, not sure if you got it or not?
What I'd really like to know is how to create samples for MusicMon without going through 2 different programs as a friend suggested (FastTracker2, ProTracker -> Export, MusicMon).

But any 'classic' samples would give any music I create a slightly nostalgic feel which is always good, so I'd love to take you up on your samples offer!

The ones I could find are where I took a sample CD full of .WAV files and downsampled them from 44Khz stereo into 11Khz mono. I uploaded them to Marcer's FTP a while back but currently putting them onto MediaFire. I'll sort out a link to the folder by tomorrow morning before I go to work as it's taking a while to upload them.

I would *highly* recommend you getting an UltraSatan as transferring this amount of .WAV files from your PC to the ST becomes a helluva lot easier.

Now this is kinda weird. I've been reading through this thread, looked at your youtube videos and only noticed afterwards that you're from the same city as me. We must get chatting. I'm at Plymouth University right now and I study computer and information security there. As the head of the school of computing Steve Furnell runs a retro computing show every now and then as an event for the southwest branch of the British Computer Society. If you're interested you should drop in. :-) Though I am busy with other projects such as co-running the computer security society (giving that up soon) and building a website for all the computing students at the uni (I have too many fingers in too many pies I know!) I try to make time for my favourite hobby of Atari STs and retro computers. :-)

Give me a shout at some point.

Regards,

Richard.
