Atari ST and Amiga games with different music?

Post by Stefan jL »

What games that was released on both Amiga and Atari ST had different music compared to the both versions?

I think the following games have different music, but it was a while since i heard the Amiga versions:
Flimbos Quest
Ivanhoe
Timemachine

Please tell me if i am totally wrong with these three games :?

How different do you mean?

No Second Prize has the same music... but the ST is YM

HoverSprint has the Same music both are Digi

you mean an entirely different soundtrack?
Atari STFM 512 / STe 4MB / Mega ST+DSP / Falcon 4MB 16Mhz 68882 - DVD/CDRW/ZIP/DAT - FDI / Jaguar / Lynx 1&2 / 7800 / 2600 / XE 130+SD Card // Sega Dreamcast / Mega2+CD2 // Apple G4

There are many more... esp some of the digital tunes are totally different on the ST then on the Amiga (Pretty strange to me as the Amiga provides a digital music already)... If I remember correctly BAAL is such an example.

Klax.

Actually I'm pretty sure quite a few games where Matt Furniss did the music for are different.

Civ has the same music on both formats. But Flimbo's Quest, they are really different compositions to my ear.

Other games with different compositions between formats:
Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters
Final Fight (different titlemusic, amiga has no ingame music)
Predator
Zombi (title music is different, amiga is missing the ingame music)

Maybe I could mention Rampage (amiga has no music?).

Ghouls & Ghosts also have different music at the "attract mode".

Also I have difficulty to hear the similarities in the music for Lethal Weapon?

ok Civ does not not have differnt german anthem then... or?

Hmm.. Flimbos Quest could be differnt but some parts are identical, i am not able to tell if they are remixes or just have small identical parts from the Amiga version, i guess they are so modified they could count as new music :)

List update:

Ivanhoe
Time Machine
Ghouls'n Ghost's*
Epic
Toki*
Baal
Blood Money
Ghost Battle*
Shadow Warriors
Klax
Escape from the Planet of Robot Monsters
Final Fight
Predator
Zombi
Rampage
Flimbos Quest*
Carvup

BTW the ST Rampage music was also used for the C-64 game IO :)

ST carvup has some really catchy ingame music.

Civ: Maybe one song or two are different in amiga and ST, but PC/Amiga/ST have mostly the same compositions.

Thanks for the tip about IO, didn't know that :)

Logical demo also had a digital intro which never ended up in full game. Very good chip music though!

For completist information, Stardust Amiga and Stardust STe got different musics on tunnel sequences.

All original Amiga tunes have been composed by Risto Vuori (RIB/Bloodsuckers). Check "sd*" and "stardust*" here : http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?detai ... &view=6232
STe specific tunnel tunes have been composed by Tero Kostermaa (Teque/Armada). Check "sdst*" here : http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?detai ... &view=7347

I guess the mod replay routine used on STe for the tunnel sequences doesn't implement "volume" tracker commands (Cxx & Axx), which are most certainly CPU intensive without the Amiga PAULA sound processor.
Because both STe and Amiga tunnel tunes use 3 channels, but no volume command is used in the STe tunes.

[EDIT] It seems my assumption is correct, reading Teque own website : http://teque.planet-d.net/music_game.htm
Specs V1: Ye olde 15inst mod format
All songs share same sample set
3rd ch only one sample w/offset fx
4th channel used for game sfx
Specs V2: Same as above
Except no volume commands allowed...
Then also using a fixed frequency sample on channel 3 (the "Prodigy" beat sample).
