Dj ing YM and Sap songs.

Post by accxess »

Hi!
I am (hopefully) going to be playing YM and Sap tunes at a club, so I am in the middle of converting tunes to wav. I have one problem however, I havn't found a Sap player that lets me export wav, I tried Deliplayer, but all Sap files sound like crap : / any ideas?

regards
/Tobias

*.Sap is the audio format of the Atari 8bit Pokey soundchip :)

The obvious answer is to record the output of the real hardware. I guess you don't have an Atari 8bit around? I would also suggest recording YM2149 tunes from a real ST as I haven't heard a perfect emulation of that either.

I will have to settle for winjam and SNDH files , when it comes to YM. I have found some SAP players that sound ok, but none of those have wav output, I guess I can rout the output through my mixing desk and back into cooledit or something, but a simple "export to wav" would make it so much easier :) But the only player I have found that has an export function is Deliplayer, and that one has severe problems playing Sap files..

have you tried raster music tracker?

I think this loads poky files from well known 9 bit atari trackers.

then use something like JACK FOR WINDOWS to route the audio out to a wav recorder.

Or why not use two instances of deliplayer?

As I said Deli player at least on my computer can't play Sap tunes, it has problems with tempo and other things, it sounds horrible : / But I think I have a solution allthough it takes a bit more work than just clicking an "export wav" button.

If your soundcard has a 'record what is playing' facility, just hit record in a sampling app, while the tune is playing.

I used to record SAP files for Nectarine from Winamp with the SAP plugin and Winamp's diskwriter : http://asma.atari.org/bin/in_sap22.exe

Of course, it will be much better if you can record it from the real machine, emulation not being 100% accurate but it's still 50 times better than Deliplayer's.
