You can ask the guys from the Chaospott (https://chaospott.de/) or you come and visit us at the Chaosdorf (https://chaosdorf.de/) and you can solder it on your own (with a little help and instruction)

I'll try to get it from Pin 2 of the DIN13 monitor connector tomorrow.

Still wondering why MONO works on the STE (as CSYNC) but not on the MegaSTE. I guess my STE has a modulator and the MegaSTE does not?
Looks like I wrote some rubbish without looking into the RGB2HDMI software differences and understanding HSYNC and VSYNC vs. CSYNC. I hope I did my homework:

1. The Jan Beta SW (STE profile) uses CSYNC instead of separate HSYNC & VSYNC. The signal wire that used to tap into VSYNC is used for monochrome.

2. On my MegaSTE I have identified HSYNC and VSYNC correctly, but I have to use the 'regular' SW for this setup to work (confirmed, works)

3. Since I want to make use of monochrome mode I should find CSYNC on my (European, RF out) MegaSTE and use Jan Beta's firmware, same as with my STE. I should be able to grab CSYNC from U309.

EDIT: Success. I'll post some documentation as soon as I have the colors right.

Here's the correct pinout for my MegaSTE:

5V/GND is supplied from the PSU.

I think this is the machine I will be putting it into as well. So I will be looking for help :)

I have the board on the way.. I ordered a PI zero 1.3v with a header. Do I need the 12bit extender? or should I just wire it all up? I guess I get 16 lines of ribbon and then just solder correct? WIll it be this thread or another where I look to get all the steps.. OS, profiles, programming.. wiring etc?

You don't need anything else but pixelk's board, the Pi zero, some wires (preferably a ribbon cable) and a micro SD card.
[edit] and a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable, or mini-HDMI to DVI depending on your display
[edit 2] and I recommend using PIN headers and plugs to connect your Atari to pixelk's board, see https://photos.app.goo.gl/BYxs6zPVf4aTjnT57
[edit 3] I also use a Raspberry CPU heatsink since IIUC the Pi is being overclocked by the software
[edit 4 wow I'm on a run] and while you're ordering stuff you might want to get a DIN13 plug and wire GND to pin 4, this will signal your Atari that you're using a monochrome monitor in case black&white floats your boat, see https://photos.app.goo.gl/mjB8NduZh4P9iQ3z6

Installation in the MegaSTE is straightforward, just use the soldering points I've documented.

(What I labeled as CSYNC is connected to HSYNC on pixelk's board, I could have made that clearer).

And make sure to use Jan Beta's software.

Thanks so much theimann, I will follow your directions.

Have a question in regards to output.. The DIN13 wiring GND TO PIN 4 - thats for a mono only correct? I would want a switch there if I am going to switch back and forth? If so.. I have a RGB to VGA adapter in my output.. could I not leave it in.. and flip the switch? ALSO if I wanted to grab mono output.. which I dont.. I could it from there as well.

Do you have you split the ribbon cable ? I bought one with plugs on each end.

I got the hdmi cable (HDMI Female to Mini HDMI Male Cable for FPV HDTV Multicopter Aerial Photography) and started up the pi today. It looks good but hard to use without a mouse. I won't be able to do much to it for a week or so.

Correct, connecting the DIN13 GND to pin 4 is only required for mono output.
The RGB2VGA switch should work as well.

So on the ST side you'll need to solder the wires individually, at least if you follow the STe instructions in this thread.

Something like this will do: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264453322487 ... SwYFVg57m6
Just strip off as many cables as you need (16).

On the RGB2HDMI side, if you want to have a pluggable solution instead of soldering directly to the board I recommend getting something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223621932363 ... SwuVZbTae-

This will allow you to build your own plugs according to your needs.
There might be better solutions though. I used what I had at hand.

I did have a bundle of jumper wires like the ones you linked above. They were for an arduino project that I could never get to work.

They are not very long but might do the job.

Good news,

I received 5 CPLD's and was able to make 2 more boards (the 2 other PCB must be terminally dead)

Wish list :
  1. wietze
  2. fmen
  3. jeloneal
  4. fichten68
  5. Rarkhaan
  6. Mikerochip
  7. MiggyMog
  8. Mully
  9. geogeo28
  10. grosi
  11. casioboy
I'll PM wietze & fmen to confirm interest and proceed.
However, I'm constantly loosing money on shipping outside the EU (I never passed the cost on the people concerned). So the cost will increase for this mini-batch to 20€ / board + shipping.

I'll make the two packages on Friday and keep you informed.

Now it's the milk/cereal conundrum : I have leftover CPLDs but no working PCBs. If I order PCBs in the future I'll throw some RGB2HDMI in the mix, but I have no date for that move yet.

/sigh... Well, since Icky and Exxos have postponed their video solution
until probably next year, if possible, please add me to the back of the list
if all the items become available again.

Hopefully, if it does become available again, I can have someone talk
me through the installation.

Thanks much.

Are buffered boards available anywhere (already made) or do I need to order the PCB's and have them made myself?

I would like to buy at least 2 buffered boards and set up RBG2HDMI in 2 ST's.

The two parcels have been sent.

*** EDIT ***

I ordered 10 new PCBs (in white, why not), I have 6 CPLDs (but 5 of them are not validated as working yet), but other components will be needed. I'll make what I can and update the thread.

Ok have my board. Where do I look for the OS for the SD card? I have soldered up my headers, I am going to install this in a megaSTE. I will look back through this thread. I have the github up on my browser, but not seeing anything for the SD card.

Grab the latest IanSB release from https://github.com/IanSB/RGBtoHDMI/releases
Right now this is https://github.com/IanSB/RGBtoHDMI/rele ... Beta41.zip
Copy the content to the root of your SD card. FAT32 should do the trick as filesytem IIRC.

I recommend testing the Raspberry/software setup before doing the wiring. You should see some OSD / test screen without any RGB2HDMI wiring in place.

Just to be clear, it's unlike other Raspberry Pi OS's :
  • Formet your µSD as FAT32 (you can use SD Formater for that on your computer), you only need the smallest availble µSD
  • Unzip the content of the latest IanSB release into the root of your µSD
  • Pop it in you Raspberry Pi Zero, Zero W, Zero H, Zero WH (you will not use the Wifi, you can use the cheapest Zero model under 10$). As it may be overclocked (mainly for 12 bits STEs) a heatsink may be a good idea, but not mandatory.
  • Plug a mini-HDMi cable and power it up via the right Micro-USB
