Image

As for the "wish-list" :
  1. pixelk
  2. pixelk
  3. stormy
  4. theimann
  5. tin
  6. ggn
  7. Bikerbob
  8. PeterS
  9. wietze
  10. fmen
  11. jeloneal
I'll continue the list over ten, in case of anybody changes their mind (as the CPLDs shipping will take a long time - 20 days the first time).

You expressed your interest very early, but each time you didn't felt up to the soldering task. Did I misinterpret your wish, or am I just bad at reading sarcasm (as I may be right now)
If you give ma a clear "please 1 unit", I will shoehorn you into the list, as your inputs during this journey were interesting and insightful for me.

I wish someone on the wish-list could order two and do the soldering job for me (Essen/Germany) ;-)
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

For people who are concerned about soldering on the Atari side, you can always consider using "parrot clips" to hook onto the resistors. I actually used this approach when installing the MonSTEr board in my MegaSTE a few years back and didn't want to solder onto the pins of the ICs. It worked well, and continues to do so!

The smaller the clip, the better, and you must ensure movement doesn't short nearby pins, but when they're closed tightly, there's little movement but plenty of contact at the same time.

Examples of the parrot clips are seen here: https://parrot-invent.com/
  • Mega STE/4, Monster board, 40GB IDE, CosmosEx
  • Mega ST4, Monster board, 8GB CF, Gotek
  • TT4/16, SCSI2SD
  • Falcon 14MB, 8GB CF, Falcon Speed, CosmosEx
  • Falcon 14MB, 8GB SD, Gotek
  • 130XE/myIDE2; 800XL/Supermon; XEGS/SIO2SD; 800XL/SIO2SD; 130XE/SIDE2
  • 1040STE/4MB, Monster board (8GB SD, RTC)
Work-in-progress: Mega ST4/Matrix M110 video; Mega ST2/Titan Reflex video; TT 2/16MB; 1200XL UAV; 400 UAV/Audio; 800

Thank you for the tip, that gives an alternative for those afraid to solder.
Be aware that on the STe at least, there is not much headroom, as the power brick sits just on top of the shifter.

If you want to try the no-solder route, there is an alternative point for the composite Sync connected to the HS input on the RGB2HDMI :

Hi!

I'd like to put my name down for one, if that's ok.
I'm in Ireland, btw.

Where are you posting from pixelk?

I don't mind soldering into my STfm. It all ready has a T-board TOS2.06, 4MB simm board, HD floppy.

More worried by the unknowns like the smd stuff.

I know nothing about ras-pi either.

I'm Shipping from France, so no customs tax for the .eu, but your mileage may vary outside of the European Union.

Talking about the Pi part, you're in luck. Being a bare-metal solution, RGB2HDMI is simpler to install than most raspberry pi OSes.
You only need a FAT formatted µSD card (use the smallest cheapest you can find), and just copy the content of the zip from IanSB repository directly on the root of the µSD at the time of writting there is at Beta 40. Put it in the Pi, and you're done. The rest of the setup is through the RGB2HDMI interface (menu/down/up buttons). You should immediately have a picture when powering the Pi with the µSD inserted.
If everything is connected correctly to the ST you will see the menu on the HDMI Input, with the ST Picture behind, then the menu fades away if you don't touch the menu button. The boot is so quick that the Pi boots faster than the ST.
If you see a black screen like this, your wiring is bad, or your st is dead (I recorded this after botching a bus resistor replacement on a STe, I cleaned my work and now it works perfectly).

RGB2HDMI boot in a dead STe - black screen

pixelk wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:01 am To use an RGB2HDMI with an Atari STe you will need :
  • A raspberry pi 0 (only tested with wireless model, but the network isn't used so far)
  • 2x20 male headers to solder to the rpi
  • 1*2 male headers to solder to the rpi
  • A µSD Card to put in the pi (the bare metal OS is less than 30MB)
  • 16 wires ribbon cable to go from the RGB2HDMI board to the ST mainboard
  • decent soldering skills and equipment
Sorry, but I somehow can’t figure out how the 16 outputs from the STE connect to the RGBtoHDMI board without the 12 bit 16 way extender board. Could you please show how the STE is connected to the RGBtoHDMI board.

Thank you!

Connect the pads with the same name (I used a ribbon cable) :
