A pal of mine had problems with his satandisk so took it home and had a look at it.
And yea it is a used one which actually has been repaired so a bit dodgy there.
However got it to work, but only with HDdriver?
Tested with a old version 6 and 10.
Partitions ok and all that(after wiping SDdisk from MSDOS5 stuff).
However, when booting with ICD pro machine hangs with a white screen?
And AHDI 6.06 cant find a device?
Anyone had similar probbs?
Interupt not working or something?
A question about satandisk.

Re: A question about satandisk.
Classic Satandisk only works with HDDriver, ICD Pro and AHDI never worked with them.
The UltraSatan works with ICD Pro.

Re: A question about satandisk.
Ok,thx for info.
Then the thing should be working as supposed I quess.?
So no old satandisk for me then,I want stuff to work as standard block devices.
Not fond of software lockins, one might want to run linux or test out old stuff on the 'disk'.

Re: A question about satandisk.
As there is no Linux for the ST, I cannot see your point. TOS doesn't know about "Block devices", it is not a Unix.
During development of the Satandisk, AHDI and ICD Pro drivers weren't tested as far as I know and the hardware probably needs some changes (timing is my smart guess).
Those were never implemented because development of the successor device, the UltraSatan, was already underway or planned.
HDDriver is worth its money in any case. You only need it for the Atari side.

Re: A question about satandisk.
Well with block devices I really mean like a proper old hard-disk,and sure one can if you have MMU(ie upgraded st with lots of memory and so on,have to compile the thing yourself most likely),TT has DMA port aswell right?.
I was more making the point that I like more when they actually behave like a hard-drive.
But as you wrote maybe the Ultra one has that fixed

Re: A question about satandisk.
It behaves exactly as a harddrive, only the timings and some obscure things are not compatible with AHDI and ICD Pro. HDDriver *is* a harddisk driver (as the name suggests) which you need on the ST, classic TOS has no builtin drivers to support specific harddrive hardware.

Re: A question about satandisk.
The much cheaper PPera driver also works with Satandisk.
