SM 124 modifications
I've been searching this forum and others but I cannot find any info about how you modify the SM 124 to display it's image across the entire screen. I remember reading something about it being possible. Am I simply misremembering or is this possible?
Thanks,
Joacim

Re: SM 124 modifications
It is possible but I don't think it is recommended as I have heard it can shorten the lifespan of the monitor.....these days the preferred alternative would be to use a more modern display via an adaptor.
Re: SM 124 modifications
The SM124 is still a brilliant monitor. However, instead of fettling with the monitor I suggest installing something like LaceScan in your ST. It will allow you to use more of the screen by displaying more pixels instead of just stretching the 640x400 image.

Re: SM 124 modifications
"LaceScan = screen driver for overscan modes on ST (not STE). Package is STE compatible but gives no overscan then. Compatibility tested with MagiC, MiNT, nAES, Geneva, MTOS. Large screen emulator for TT-medium, TT-high, etc, allows any monitor (mono or colour) to use any rez of 1-4 bitplanes."

Re: SM 124 modifications
I guess you could alternatively take the cover off your Atari.........dress like it's the 1930's and put a magnifying screen in front of that display while humming the tune Brazil.

Yes, that's why I wrote "ST"Maeke wrote:st: ok.

I have LaceScan in a couple of ST's. It's brilliant stuff when working with GEM-apps, the extra pixels really make a difference. It also makes med-rez a lot more usable, I've written a lot of code on an STM with LaceScan and a 10" SCART-equipped CRT-TV...
The circuit is so simple, why didn't Atari build in this feature from the start? It would have made a big difference.

Re: SM 124 modifications
I think there is info on how to do that on a few models in the do-it archives. As I remember not all mono-monitors had the easily accessible trimpots to do it, and as Miguel points out, it stresses the monitor and might shorten it's life.joacim wrote:I've been searching this forum and others but I cannot find any info about how you modify the SM 124 to display it's image across the entire screen. If you got an ST I completely agree with Joska, hardware overscan is the way to go... The lacescan circuit is an easy build!
Updated my guides as of june 28th, 2016. Check'em out and feedback!

Re: SM 124 modifications
Apologies if this has already been answered in another thread, but where can I find the schematics/documentation for the most recent version of Lacescan? I have a couple of ST:s and would be interested in modifying at least one of them. Thanks.

Re: SM 124 modifications
There was a guide how to adjust the SM124 screen to remove borders in one of the issues of Swedish magazine Atarimagazin.
