Project : desktop case for ST and Falcon

The desktoper I develop will replace the top cover as I need more height to fit the H&N board + VGA card. Roughly 2 cm higher. Otherwise the concept is similar v

BTW DDD case looks like this, basically a cover for the old keyboard to make the Falcon look like a desktop box with power switch in front:

Honestly I have no clue. Thorn did have one and I always had a love for this casing. It is exactly what Atari missed to produce.

I personally think that is too high. Hardly anyone needs 5,25" drives in an Atari these days. I'd prefer a neat solution to simply turn the existing case into a usable monitor stand.

Yes, it looks too high and ugly because of that.
Since it is making anew, should include attachment/bracket for new hardware stuff like the floppy replace, CT63 etc rather than use back an old design.

Thanks catmando, it helps me a lot.
I have finally received the card I was waiting for, so I'll return to the drawing board soon.

First thoughts and main concepts :
I don't think I'll go with something that big, but the concept is there.
Total height should be 7.5-8 cm, more or less the original ST case + 1-1.5 cm.
On the front 1 cut for 3.5" floppy, 1 cut extra 3.5" space for ultrasatan or CF card, inside mount for 3.5" HDD, DMA-SCSI card, VGA card, extra poles for personal mounting board. Build in folded steel sheets 1.2 mm thick, powder coated, and bolt onto the original ST chassis.
I believe that a keyboard case with lighter folded sheets can be done too.

Sorry if I don't give news very often, I am doing this project on my spare time, so It may take some time.
But be assured that I will do it until completed, so it's not a kind of vapor project, as I want to build this case for my own use first

Hi guys,
The project is still alive but in standby for now, as my agenda is pretty full. I will start it again later in August.
In the mean time and thanks to this thread, the project has evolved to a Desktoper style cover with a keyboard casing, as it will be more economical and also universal for ST/STE/Falcon.
Regarding 3D-printer I have looked for various options but all that I have found so far are much smaller than the size of the ST case. We need at least a 50x30 cm wide printing area and the biggest 3D printing service found on the net goes for 30x30 but not more.

No nothing new.
I am presently moving from Mexico to Brasil. Needless to say that I am pretty busy and I won't see my Ataris before February I guess.
The good news are that I won't give up and that there are many nice fab labs in São Paulo. Living in a far and protectionist country made me move the project to a DIY solution as it would be too costly to import the case from the USA. So 3D printing may come back as an option, I have many design concepts which may work even on a regular printer.

No news so far. My Falcon and STe are still in their boxes, and should be running again soon as I am waiting for my CT60e but don't expect anything soon regarding the case prototype as I have many other things delayed on my to do list. Personal life and work are not leaving me enough time for Atari recently
