Multiple devices on SCSI>IDE / SCSI>CF

Post by Dark Willow »

So, thining about swapping out the old HD on the TT for a solid state solution, and two present themselves. What I really want here a system that let's me have the ability to access two cards at the same time to be able to copy stuff over from a PC to the "main" card acting as Atari hard drive (i.e. one card as a "floppy" and one as a "hard drive")

Can HDdriver support this on the TT internal SCSI? Two devices I'm considering are:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350748493467? ... 97.c0.m619

Connected though an Acard SCSI-IDE adapter. Or:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370775121460? ... 1423.l2649

Connected directly to the SCSI.

Does anyone have any experiences with this?

From what I've seen in other threads, these work:
http://a4000t.com/store/index.php?main_ ... cts_id=241

They use LUNs, so you need a fairly newer HD Driver though, he added better LUN support. And its not overly priced like on ebay.

I don't know if the internal chain can handle more than one ID. I don't see why not.

The Acard can be troublesome if it has old firmware, so I've heard.

I have on my external SCSI chain an 9GB HDD and a SD-adapter with IDE-SCSI converter.

From what I know, the IDE-SCSI adapter will only look at a single IDE device.
So may be if you can bank the 2 CF together, you may be able to use both else only the master.

Your best bet may be to get what Lonny said, as it was mentioned in several thread that it works.

I've been using this on my TT for a while: CF Aztecmonster

It works quite well. I'm going to order a couple more (some day).

Have the same, after seeing you do it. :)

I have my TT with Acard+kingston CF and works ok. At the begining I had two of them connected to transfer files between the CF and worked ok too.

Was that two CF's readers running through one Acard? That's exactly what I'm hoping to do (since one IDE line can handle two devices, I was hoping it should be possible!)

No...2 Acards. One per device. :(

ACard is still around, so look at their website.
I also had that intention several years back.
( My Acard did not work for me as it was bad after some experiments, the ACard tech support told me to return to the seller for a replacement but I bought it off ebay, so not possible)

IIRC, there were some adapter models that supports multiple IDE devices.

I was thinking about the TT...that has the SCSI board and not internal ACSI for ultrasatan (like the Mega ST or Mega STe) and I prefer not to use the external ultrasatan with it. So I had to put an Acard+IDE to CF card.

I know about alanh project for ST, STe and MegaSTe...I want one when ready

8O I must be over 3 years since I visited Acard website it was during the time when I had issues with my Acard and looking for what products they have.
They used to have one adapter with 2 IDE cables supporting 2 drive.
Now I see that they do not have that any more on their website.
But they have a SCSI-SATA with 4 SATA devices.
Frankly, I have not used any of those so I do not know how many ID it uses, but what Simbo said made sense.

I say forget all these silly adapter upon adapter. Just get a Suska Gigafile or two. :megaphone: Support the few Atari hardware manufacturers left! :D The Gigafile was designed for Atari ST/TT computers - not Mac, PCs, etc though I am sure they can be used with them too.

Suska works on ACSI. The solutions I'm looking at are for the internal TT SCSI.

Just an update on this. I oredred a PCD-60B reader from Mechware. Unit cost $95 and shipping from US to UK was $24. This is the last model they have left in stock, but it does give you both Compact Flash, SD Card and PCMCIA support over internal SCSI (with independent LUNs - so should support using multiple cards at the same time), and so this could be a good option for those with MSTe and TTs. It seems extremely flexible.

I'll post a report when I get it and have had a chance to experiment (after finals).
