Usiing a TEC for cooling?

Post by DarkLord »

Just wondering what the pitfalls and/or advantages would be, using
a 5v TEC (thermo-electric cooler) , with thermal adhesive/glue on
a CPU?

Would it be as efficient as a fan? Would there be condensation?

Thanks!

Did you have something specific in mind that you were going to cool?

Problem with Peltiers is that they still need a powerful fan and heatsink on top of them to keep the Peltier itself cool. Cooler it can be kept the cooler the bottom plate gets which contacts the CPU top. As good as modern fans and heatsinks have got, I dunno if Peltiers make sense any more.

Plus because of the need to still have a heatsink and fan on top they aren't exactly compact. So if space is a concern...yeah...

Okay, thanks. Getting the same answers from AtariAge. I was just looking at options for cooling the 68030 in my PAK equipped STacy, a space and power challenged setup. :)

Have you not an old video vard gpu cooler, or somthing out of an old lapptop.

I had a little fan/heatsink once, probably less than 3/8" thick, and large enough to fit 68030.

The really cheap basic video card with their neat HSF combos would be a treat no?
