Official ST Production Figures?

Post by Middleman »

Hi all, this is my first post here! Hello to you all (and very glad to see the ST scene is still going strong all these years). :D

Just a quick question really....does anybody know how many Atari STs were produced over the years?
Been trying to look for this figure online for this but couldn't found any, so thought to ask if anybody knew this here?

much appreciated if anyone could help answer this for me,

This site anecdotally claims a figure of 6 million units (sales)

There was another site that had some kind of year on year breakdown... now where was it?

Ah - here it is! Again, sales figures, but production is likely to track close enough ;)
STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

Hmmm interesting, the Amiga figures are off by a massive 50% so I call in to question the figures for ST or Amiga. The Amiga is confirmed as over 11 million in sales 1985 to 1994.

I don't think the Amiga, due to production problems, was even sold until 1986...

PS Never mind - probably should have said "wasn't *widely* sold". :)

main issue with those amiga figures is that we don't exactly which model was taken into account. my guess is that under those figures are ALL amiga models like a500,a600,a1200 ect.
In that case it could not be fair to compare those figures with only ST model (excluding STe/TT and Falcion) sale.

I JUST FINISHED site (web database) for entering Atari serial numbers: http://milan.kovac.cc/atari/chipmunk/index.php

please use it! If we type enough serial numbers, we can make some conclusion regarding Atari computer production!
(and report any error on site if you find it!)

Thanks
using Atari since 1986.http://wet.atari.orghttp://milan.kovac.cc/atari/software/ ・ Atari Falcon030/CT63/SV ・ Atari STe ・ Atari Mega4/MegaFile30/SM124 ・ Amiga 1200/PPC ・ Amiga 500 ・ C64 ・ ZX Spectrum ・ RPi ・ MagiC! ・ MiNT 1.18 ・ OS X
