Very nice work. I guess you're missing some keys when on the PC, right? But, even that I would like to have one
- Atari 520 STe 4MB RAM + TOS 2.06 + UltraSatan
- Atari Falcon030 14MB RAM + TOS 4.04 + IDE-SD card HDD + NVRAM mod + SCSI buffer clock mod + EtherNEC
- Amstrad CPC 6128 + HxC USB Floppy Emulator
- Acorn A3010 4MB RAM + 40MB IDE HDD

Very nice! That keyboard PCB is very impressive indeed. Why did you choose this instead of just converting the ST keyboard protocol to PS/2 using a microcontroller?

Btw that mouse conversion is nice. I converted a broken Atari mouse to PS/2 (for my Milan) the same way, but yours look nicer.

@ AtariSince1989
As you think
in some key, some keys are missing and more :)
in general use, but not much difference
thanks

@Joska
I first thought
Like you said you was to make a MC with a protocol converter
but the original ATARI ST keyboard controller (68hcXX) was broken
as a result, i was make a complete keyboard control pcb with pic 18FXXX
thanks

i like it

you can have a nice machine and do like this guy did

some keys missing for pc yes

but fly usb keyboard also fixes this
retain atari or any keystyle and board . for emulators and case reuse
i dont like throwing a case away...

very nice
very expandable unlike fpga clones
i have a couple of cases and a couple of keyboards so i guess ill be pm'ing you for your pic sources or hex
as it makes it easier....

top marks from me for one...!!! ill need to steal my micro atx board back from my pal

dead atari cases deserve a fitting home ...!!!
or a fitting pc deserves an atari case
but i guess im not allowed to say that [smilie=greencolorz4_pdt_04.gif]

as i have a spare falcon case becouse ill rehome it to another case maybe wooden ...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Biostar-MCP6PB-M2 ... 439b0b4660

here is a £35 choice in ebay inc post

uses an amd dual core chip or other amd....

so total cost is cpu ~£50 + 35 board + memory ~ 45 for 2X1gb strips

no need for vga card etc only hdd and etc to find and build

very nice...

ill buy one of these boards tonight save bothering my pal

got one on its way
now the cpu....

ram

the new price of 2X2gb ram is around £40 per 2gb strip
ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kingston-HyperX-4 ... 3ef9f681b3

or look around
there is no point under populating it for want of a few quid
use the lowest watt's cpu and fastest speed and a many core chip {this board supports quad etc am2..X}
and a good atx psu i feel a good fan overall maybe two {back to the dam fans}
need to look at water cooling now... or peltiers also
simbo

Re: Atari st series computers conversion PC

Post by simbo »

on another closely related matter
i have an old sm124 dead crt why do people insist on throwing them away...???
so i took the board from it before for parts

now i have a crt and a case
the plan is to remove the crt
and use only the front panel from the monitor and trim off any plastic back to a flat reat plane

to house a 10" colour lcd can have vga or svideo or rgb scart input
you get these on ebay they are used for incar stuff portable dvd
can even have a dvd and also satnav in place touch screen is the plan
as you can use a pest to encode up the touch screen to atari mouse....

and also planes and trains... displays
and are easy to find for a 10 er or two

so take its front shell off its screen and mount it and adjust and panels to suite
ill look around

then just add a small stand from another montior or etc and a back panel as a cover reusing screw position posts

i plan to allow a switch on the monitor for hires
{audio in pin} of the atari
this pin can be reused for a voltage signal as its dc decoupled internal to the stX

so detecting the signal from the hires switch on the monitor
triggers a reset from the atari ,... a small connection inside ....
from pin 5 video socket rear to the reset button center pin

modification to rear of video socket
is
add a wire between pin 5 and the center pin of the reset button
as it will have a pull up effect just connecting one wire

now when you place pin 5 to ground
the reset of the machine will occur when if forinstance you switch over the monitor switch
stx and ste will benifit from this
sequence should be
pull pin 2 low reset via pin 5 a negative going pulse from a schmit trigger ic
to switch to hires and also use vga socket on the lcd unit
as there is a need maybe most however will auto detect avalbile signals
and default to them some even allow preset socket priority
even have wifi remotes
so to sum up
look for a kicj ass svideo , rgb scart , vga , inputs lcd 10"
perferably with satnav touch screen wifi remote mp3 4 player dvd and
multi language etc

there is the ultimate sm124 / 5 project as sized

im gona do it in the next few months

i dont have the cash this week but here is a little ditty perfect for the job
has nothing fancy using a touch tablets just as good as on screen
it will use AV for med / low and vga for high res i see it has av and vga input
reuse the vga.. input
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Super-10-inch-lcd ... 2303c6102d

snap it up for 20£ or so
has a remote
watch tv flip back to atari to check how the files are doing

If you're going to buy a AM2+ motherboard then you _MUST_ get a 785G based motherboard. Only £10 more, all other IGP based chipsets pale into insignificance on 3D scores next to it (admittedly they are still pretty poor compared to cheap PCIe card). Plus having an SB710 southbridge means you can attempt to unlock the 2nd core of a £25 Sempron 140 (assuming it is not broken) which can save you even more money.

hi alex thanks for the advice
i dont see 3d games being a problem for me

one idea for this use of such as this board is to use a right angle riser from pci and also pci
the pci for a tv card the pcie for video or video capture and output card {realtime one}

i think any old chipset and a nice fitting board is cool
i do agree some are better than others but im sure with time
users will tweak the registers to turn on all the bits disabled on oem rebadged boards
and adding cards isnt too hard
i think as usual the ram and mpu are the best thing to spend cash on
and im glad to hear you can tweak the mpu speed
although ive learned never to take things too far with bga chips xbox most main boards with issues that 'just stopped working or ylod on playstations etc etc all fixed by 25 sec's @400deg'c smd rework and hot air
the main mpu that get too hot or south bridge and the cpu regulation
ball solder joint fracture... ive just repaired a small intel duo/2 board using this method

it hasnt arrived yet hope it will soon i ordered some acer 2gb ddr for it 800mhz stuff
so full compliment of ram deserves a decent 4 core cpu
this board will take the latest cpu however has a low fsb at only 800mhz
maybe this is where the bottle neck is the most ...
im not too worried about these points

ill need to make an account on the forum above
thanks for posting the link too it here :P

Hi,

I've used 'Plastikote' Spray's before without lacquer and they have lasted well, with lacquer even longer!

For the best result use nitro cellulose paint, not the synthetic kind of paint which is much softer.
Nitro-base is much harder and more scratch resistant. Best of all is ofcourse 2k CARpaint.
But it is much more difficult to do (real spraygun is needed) an toxic as hell.

Wow, that's sound like high technology chemistry to me :P

With a quick search on Internet, I have found that that nitrocellulose paint is used on guitars. Have even found nitrocellulose spray paint, do you recommend it? Does need lacquer as well? Thanks a lot BoNuS.

electro-chemical process (plastic on the aluminum and copper on anodized Finally) coated is best, but I think is too expensive.
approximately 500 usd as a case st 8O

cellulose paint and varnish on the successful results but also gives

st case of electro-chemical :)

I have made such an adapter. Using a microcontroller like the Atmega is definitely the easy solution. I've made such an adapter using an Atmega168 so I can use a TT keyboard with my TT. PM me if you're interested in details.
