Quick SID question

I know that this is not right place for c64 discussions, but I saw some Amiga/Commodore guru`s in this forum....
So, my question, is it possible to just swap older 6581 with new SID 8580 since they are not soldered directly to PCB?
I heard that voltage supply is different....

You can't put an 8580 in a 6581 C64 (or a 6581 in an 8580 C64) without some modification.

The voltages are different so one can't just replace a 6581 with a 8580 or vice versa. Furthermore, the filter caps used for them are not the same either.

there is lots of sid info here well worth reading

i sync his site every so often
and one chip is 12v one is 15v so i would be carefull interchanging them
beleve me

these chips turned into rocking horse manure a few years ago

Nice links, thanx. I actually found some schematics for dual sid mode (with a switch), pretty simple.
