Cleaning the motherboard

Post by sniperstorm »

I have a st that needs a little help. What can I use on a motherboard to get it clean and shiny again and not hurt it. I also want to clean up all the metal connectors on the back of the st, ie composite out and such.

ive used sprays to clean pcb's

but i think it would take two cans of spray to clean it set it on its corner
and spray accross several times and lots of brushing to get rid of flux and other contamination

i used recently a sodium hypo and detergent solution
75% bleach {thin } + 20% vinigar + 5% sodium hydroxide {hair bleach}
bath it for 15mins then wash and dry over a heater for a few days

this works very well and made a nice shinny oxide free surface
i then fully sprayed with pcb fixers
{first spray with art fixer then pcb resist spray}

if its an ste or st/f/m first seek any updated cores both fpga and dil chips
to fix any errors and update to tos somthing or mask any slots you need to use

just to add

this will turn all of the legs of chips etc black
and fixes the oxides to tri oxide state for lead and tin as used
silver solder will rott using this solution

but ataris will benifit from this if IF you get the resist step right

and last for sever hunderd years

what makers of chips fail to tell you is the legs
will rott in 0-200 years if untreated to trioxidisation state
normal air will kill them atom by atom
where tri oxidised state will make a thicker layer this way protecting the chips to a fine state .... !!!
