I am making a retro 8bit inspired case for my MiSTer what do you think ?
This is something I have worked on for the past few weeks. I was going to look at either modding a old computer (that was not possible to fix) or using the project Julia 3d printed case, but it still needed changing to fir the MiSTer, but I brought the model and the Ajazz Ak33 keyboard to make it anyway. After two weeks of printing I ended up with a decent enough case, but I didn't like all the joins and it was going to need a lot of work to make it look decent. So I decided to work on this case design that is super simple and hides the joins from the front view as much as possible. You can print in sections on most printers like ender 3 or prusa mk2-3 and I even have a module for the PI 3 and also a wider keyboard option for that will size amiga feel.
It's still a work in progress, but I am close to having it good enough for me to use and when I am happy I will share the files for anyone to print.

This looks great, I thought about the possibility to built something using the official Raspberry Pi keyboard. My ideas went into a similar direction, but I don't have a 3D printer and I am not good at building physical stuff in general. Yours looks even better then the one I imagined, because the keyboard is much more appropriate for an 8 Bit Homecomputer hommage than the Raspi keyboard.

I have one design for the Logitech wireless keyboard with pad and another for the logitech carbon full size. The back parts are the same and I just add a spacer in the middle.

That case looks amazing...
With a bit more work, it will be perfect.

I am still working on it and printed a new version this week along with some options for a full sized keyboard with num pad.

Looks really good, I do get a bit of an Atari 800XL vibe from this version, it's probably the black keyboard and case shape.
I do like the idea of insetting the Neodymium magnets to hold the case together, very neat solution.

The magnets worked very well for the top, but I also tried to hold everything else together and it was not strong enough. So back to screws or glue for the base and I will use magnets for the top.Nat wrote:Looks really good, I do get a bit of an Atari 800XL vibe from this version, it's probably the black keyboard and case shape.

This Yellow - Gold filament needs brightening lol.

I was kind of hoping to see faux 3.5" floppy faces in the vertical riser right behind the keyboard...

That case could use a good retrobrite

I am still thinking about that part, but anything is possible and I did think about something like that.dshadoff wrote:I was kind of hoping to see faux 3.5" floppy faces in the vertical riser right behind the keyboard...

Hi, are you going to share design?
I'm interested to fiddle with version with logitech wireless K400 keyboard, case would look really great if it is slimmer.
You have great idea here to make case that looks like retro machine, combination with touchpad keyboard is great.
Keep up good work

Looks good! Just wondering why you chose to put the display / power coming out the right side instead of the back? I would be concerned that the wires coming out of the side will look messier.

I have that same keyboard and was planning to make a keyboard section for it as well as my Logitech Carbongljubojevic wrote:Hi, are you going to share design?

I do agree that it's not the best The other option is to turn it -90 and put on the left. I just like how compact it is this way.redsteakraw wrote:Looks good! I was thinking of that, however computers routinely had monitors on top so in theory If it is a bit deeper you can have a base to rest a monitor on top.leejsmith wrote:I do agree that it's not the best The other option is to turn it -90 and put on the left. I can work on a version of the back section rotated once I am happy with this one.redsteakraw wrote:I was thinking of that, however computers routinely had monitors on top so in theory If it is a bit deeper you can have a base to rest a monitor on top.leejsmith wrote:I do agree that it's not the best The other option is to turn it -90 and put on the left.
